Hello -- I am new to this forum, and road biking in general. I have a new road bike (Trek 2100 -- love it!), but my question is about shoes. I started spinning class this past winter and bought a pair of Shimano MTB shoes for that. When I bought my bike I started looking for road shoes. I ended up buying a pair of Sidi mountain bike shoes because: brand name, they're comfy, they were on sale, and the bike store guy told me that unless I was doing racing or serious road work I wouldn't know the difference and these are easier to walk around in post-ride. I haven't used them yet because I'm thinking maybe I do need road shoes (even though that would be about $100 more!!) Does anyone have an opinion on this either way??? Thanks!

I ended up with a Trek 2100 and I'm really happy too and I got a pair of Sidi road shoes they are so comfortable, paid $175 and worth every penny.

Road shoes and pedals will generally be lighter than MTB shoes and pedals.
Additionally, the cleat platform on road shoes is larger, so you will be less affected by flex in the sole of the shoe - the result being more of your pedalling power actually getting to the wheels.
However, if walk around comfort is important, stick with the MTB shoes. You'll notice that all cycle couriers use MTB shoes and pedals for that very reason.
