  1. Some interesting reading:

The history of "healthy" breakfast cereals.... or The
beginnings of the greedy and dangerous food industry:

    The history of Celiac disease:

  2. You failed to mention the rise of the diet book/method biz
that started about the same time and is still with us.

Oh yeah, the same yahoos pushed low-fat vegetarian diets
too. Hence the start of the commercialisation of the
silly low-fat diet books and programs. Thanks for
    pointing that out.

  4. The first low carb diet guru came about the same time, or a
bit before, the folk you mention. Both notions about "proper
health practices" and "diet books/fads" come and go in
waves. The lc wave has come and gone a few times in the 20th
cent., atkins was the start of the current one. All had a
better notion and were happy to offer the info, for a price.

  5. I've yet to spend one cent on a diet book or a manufactured
diet "food". yet, I've been low-carbing for three years.

  6. So what, this is irrelevant to the original thread,ie. the
biz of food and diet fads, their history and lc as being but
    the latest example.
