Personally I find that loging my work outs and clipping
out anything that discusses fitness helps me .

I'm motivated by 2 things. My blood pressure (or rather my
drop in blood pressure since I started walking!) and a woman
who I see every day that is walking. She started dating a
guy last year who is well know around these parts. He has
been walking everyday for years. She was very overweight and
could not keep up with him. She was always far behind. Many
laughed at her behind her back (small town). She is now
having the last laugh. The boyfriend passed away in the fall
due to a liver ailment or something but she continued
walking. She lost so much weight it is incredible. She is
out every single day on the main highway as I pass by in my
car. I think "wow" everytime I see her. She's a real
    motivator.

  3. How do you get motivated in the first place. I like to walk
but find when I come in from work at night I am full of good
intentions but 30 mins after I am in, I have lost the drive
to get moving. How do you encourage yourself to get started.

  4. Can you walk *right after* you get home? Don't give yourself
a chance to change your mind! Don't sit down, don't read the
mail, don't even retrieve phone messages. Just dump whatever
you've carried in (ok, put away the fridge & freezer
groceries first!), change shoes if you have to, and GO.

I have a powerful motivator in that I have diabetes and
exercise is an essential part of my control. I do way more
than is necessary but even when feeling rotten do some
minimum because I *have* to. Best wishes. bj

Hi Elaine, The spring/summer weather should be a good
    motivator for

you to get out and walk. The TV could be on the moon for
    all I see of
it ... well, the occasional soap! I know it sounds daft but
the more you get into the routine of regular light
exercise, the more energy you will have. I also have a
nice wee dog (West Highland White Terrier) and as
previous readers have stated ... walking the dog is an
excellent motivator ..... either that or it's the
marigolds for an evening of cleaning the house. I'd
rather have a nice gentle walk any day.

  6. The fact that walking is a good form of exerecise and will
help give you a good nights sleep does it for me but other
forms of motivation are also good such as the weather.
