  1. Please excuse a dumb question from a newbie.

The last bike I had without an engine was a Raleigh Clubman,
many years ago. I'm looking for something similar. The local
bike shop has a new Fausto Coppi Gavia at £300. Is this a
good buy for an apparently old model? How does it compare
with the Lugano? Is a 56cm frame ok for a 175cm tall bloke?

Your LBS should let you try it out. One man's meat etc.

A good thing to try, if they'll let you, is to ride the best
machine they have to get some sort of reference point, then
    try the Fausto against it.

The downside is that you may end up spending more than you'd
planned. Maybe go there with your maximum budget in cash and
    no other payment method?

  3. I have a brand new Raleigh X1 bike for sale. The frame size
    would suite you.

    I think I'd prefer the Gavia :

At least it /looks/ like a real bike (to me, at least ...).

What are the components on the Gavia?

Assuming you are averagely proportioned you would ride
    either a 54cm or 56cm frame - I'd tend towards the 54cm.
Assuming it's not a compact frame, of course, as these have
relatively short seat tubes compared to the rest of the
bike. A 56cm compact frame is MASSIVE!
