Wild Camping

Once you've wild camped a few times you'll find you have the
confidence to walk (and consider the map) until you find
somewhere you're happy with. Don't forget the food! And take
your waste with you!

Darren - I frequently take a weekend wildcamping in the
Lakes (I was at Blind Tarn below Dow Crag this weekend).
A wonderful experience. The Website Andy recommended is
a good one.

My list of possible wildcamp sites is rather long! If
you say where you're intending to walk, I'm sure
several of us can come up with possible camping sites.

When you're starting off you often want a long list. After a
while you simply think, 'I'm knacked', look at the map and
look for water ....

According to Wainwright, it's called Blind Tarn
because it doesn't have an outflow; but I couldn't
find an inflow either! I boiled any water I took from
the Tarn (especially as I'd had a dip in it first). If
you go down the Walna Scar Road towards the Duddon
valley, there's a stream crossing the path about 15
minutes away.

I'd highly recommend the place for a camp; there were
three tents there on Saturday night. The views out of
the combe towards Coniston are simply breathtaking.

I have been part of a small group who wild camped
together but apart from that I totally agree I like to be
off on my own. There are plenty of good spots to be has
all over the hills so unless I had a specific need to
stay at a particular spot I would just move on if tents
were already there.
