I'll be in the Forth Bridge area at the weekend and am hoping to walk over it for the first time. Can anyone suggest the best place to park a car for the walk. I know there's an aquarium on the North side but I'll be approaching the bridge from the South side. Also, when you're at either end is there anywhere to cross from one side of the bridge to the other without having to cross the roads themselves (a walkway or underpass perhaps). I'll also have my 2 yr old son with me and a pram so nothing difficult please.

You could have a problem with this walk. The southbound carriageway (both lanes) of the Forth Road Bridge is closed every weekend from now until the end of June for major roadworks. Work starts at around 1800 on Friday evening and lasts right through until early Monday morning. It started last weekend and there were some major delays. I'm not sure if the pedestrian walkways are affected although the one on the southbound side probably is. The roadworks will be suspended for July and August then start again in September until completion. Anyone planning a walking trip North in the next couple of months should bear this in mind and think about using the Kincardine Bridge instead. More details at:
which is on the north bank of the Bridge. You'll see it as you cross over. Come off at the junction just past the hotel and follow the signs for Deep Sea World. The hotel has a Tourist Information Point, a good viewpoint over the Forth from the top of the car park and an exhibition on how the Forth Rail Bridge was built. There's the annual charity event going on this w/e. Perhaps that's why you're walking it? Anyway, it'll be busy.
Official parking for that is at the old hotel site. Leave the A90 just before the bridge and follow the crowds/signs past the petrol garage around the roundabout and you'll be almost there. Don't park at Deep Sea World as it is a bit of a treck away.

Yes, there are steps down to a road running along the north shore of the Forth at the North end. A subway at the south. -- Adrian

The whole approach to the bridge is likely to be snarled up with traffic. I suggest you take the train!
