Lacing pattern changes and spoke head washers

Hard to measure..the chances of the flange breaking are more
if you change the lacing..

changing /from/ radial /to/ 2x is _not_ a problem. flange
stresses are much better oriented and substantially reduce
probability of failure.

if you're using the right spokes, forget the washers.

but i gotta ask, what are you doing this for? there's folks
out there that pay premiums for radial aero spoked wheels.
why not just sell them and buy new ones built how you want
them in the first place? potentially profitable, and
/substantially/ less brain damage.

Here's what I'm thinking about switching:

Wheelsmith oval aero spokes (I think 1.2/2.2- the kind
that doesn't need slotting) to Wheelsmith 15/16 spokes

Heads-out radial to 2x lacing

Possibly brass to alloy nipples, though I don't see what
difference it would make

What I'm not switching (in case it matters):

Mavic Open Pro rim, Hope front road hub (28hole)

If this is a really bad idea, let me know. Or if you want
to buy a Hope/aero/Open Pro wheel (just not digging the
radial look on the small flange right now).

The aero spokes look to be the correct length to be used
on another set of wheels I want to build and I have
spokes that should work for a 2x build with the hub/rim
combo in question.

I tend to take wheelbuilding dilemmas over selling
headaches, but if there's someone who might be interested in
a aero bladed Hope (so I was told- no labels) /Open Pro
front wheel, they should make me an offer.

spoke diameter makes no difference to whether a washer is
needed. just select a spoke whose length between the head
and the elbow is appropriate to the hub flange width.
