It's probably only the length. MTB posts are often 350mm or
so and road posts ~280mm(?).

The gram-conscious roadies would go for a shorter one
as possible.

As long as it's the right diameter and long enough that the
minimum mark isn't above the top of the seat tube, it'll do
just fine.

On most posts this would be true, but the WCS post has a
very unusual and exotic profile. The upper portion of the
post is much thinner than the lower area (since it has to be
clamped). If you were to use a very long MTB seatpost in a
road bike, inserted far into the seat tube, you could
potentially deform the thin wall.

OTOH, if you'll be running it at "MTB height" (that is, with
lots of the post showing), it's fine.
