  1. help please - during training for IM LP 2004 i've developed
pain in right thigh. It kills to run. The pain radiates from
above knee up to outside of thigh. MRI of hip and plain
xrays are normal. My doc thinks trochanteric bursitus and
some tell me ITB. Does ITB hurt this bad? Please help - i'm
    getting depressed

FWIW, when I had ITB it only hurt on the outside of my knee.
No pain radiating up the thigh.

The Iliotibial band runs from the lateral knee up the outside of the leg to the anterior superior iliac spine (pelvic bone bump). It can radiate up the leg when severe, but usually it is only lateral knee pain. Trochanteric bursitis should stay localized and not radiate. You may have both. Lot of info on running sites about your own PT/stretches that should be helpful.

Hope this doesn't lay you up long, but this can take a long time to resolve 😠

    Best of luck to you

  4. I had the injury you decribed. Back then the doctors had a
hard time diagnosing it as x-rays, MRI's and bone scans came
back normal. I went fro doctor to doctor trying to resove
it. It took nearly six years to fiqure out how to manage the
"condition". I say "condition" because I was too stubborn to
stop exercising and it turned into something more than just
an acute injury. After six years I learned that stretching,
massage, ART and pilates and yoga keep it at bay. If I do
not tend to it daily by warming up properly, stetching
afterwards and increasing workloads gradually it comes back.

Take care of it now. And be patient.

Impossible. We recently heard from an "expert" that
    stretching does no good whatsoever.

Only kidding of course. I had a much less severe case than
you, and stretching resolved my problems.

  6. Oh I knew that would come up. I read all those posts
regarding stretching. Science doesn't prove everything.
And sometimes science makes a claim and retracts it a few
    years later.
