You know, could that be a Japanese thing instead? Like a
baked Manju? I have had a similar little round dumpling (not
in one inch squares) that was crispy delicious on the
outside and with peach, or pineapple or apple insides. It
was delectable, but we called it "Fried Manju" and it was
only made by a little bakery on Maui, which has
unfortunately (I think) gone out of business.
