Three years - chains on my MTB last about three months :-)

Was it the (longer than normal) chain used on your recumbent
Guy? Only way my mind can think of a reason for it's
(seemingly) long life.

Or it could partly be due to the WL but how much does that
stuff cost again?

No, the tourer. This is normal for a chain for me - I expect
a year of daily use, between 4,000 and 5,000 miles out of a
SRAM PC68. The tourer has been the backup bike for most of
the last 2 1/2 years.
