  1. hello,sorry on bad english

to my father here in zagreb/croatia is diagnosed
mesothelioma, cancer cells were found in pleura aroung
lungs, and not in lungs, there was a lot of liquid / water
in that area, doctors removed abot 2 litar's (thats like
coca cola big plastic bottle) pleura around lungs is bigger
    than normal,

I understood that doctors cannot do very much, but anyway
please suggest me if you had similar situation what would
be best option ... does chemotherapy helps and does it
    worth to go

    thaks, peter

In the problem with asbestos they have shown the .. iron ..
    seems to be the problem.

A search of Medline with the words 'phytic acid and
asbestos' will bring up some studies.

Hello Peter, I'm sorry to hear about your father.

Before embarking on treatment decisions, please read and
print this up and discuss with your father and his doctor.
    tinyurl.comvh34 (Questions to Ask).

Alimta is the newest treatment for mesothelioma One web site
says it reduces pain and breathing troubles, the other says
that's (some of) the side effects. Hence why your father
should consider the Questions to Ask (above).

If he has few symptoms now, he may decide no treatment and
opt for palliative care (hospice - symptom management) when
    symptoms occur.

    Hope this helps, J

You can read about it here. cancer.govnewly

The median survivals were 12.1 versus 9.3 months,
respectively (p = 0.020). This superiority in the
combination arm was also demonstrated in the fully vitamin
supplemented subgroup. The median survivals were 13.3 and
10.0 months in the combination and cisplatin alone groups,
    respectively (p = .051).

The principal adverse effects of the Alimta plus cisplatin
regimen were myelosuppression (in which the bone marrow
produces fewer blood cells), fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and
dyspnea (difficulty breathing). Most grade 3-4 adverse
effects were significantly reduced by vitamin
    supplementation without any efficacy decrement.

    and here mesotheliomasite.comnw 0822
    03_alimta_phase3.htm "The combination of
Alimta®/cisplatin was also more effective in reducing
    pain and shortness of breath."
