This is the best place I've found for quality socks and
selection. There are other places depending on specifically
what types of socks you want. There is quite a variety in
diabetic socks and I haven't found all of them to be
suitable for me. Wigwam makes a nice long, thin sock. I also
have some nice thick ones, but not sure who makes those.
They might also be Wigwam.

in various interesting colors and patterns.

I've tried various diabetic socks, but most cling too

I hate to admit it, but I buy just plain ole crew socks and
cut off the top elastic. I should say white crew socks with
padded bottoms. They seem to be real common. I wait till
they come on sale at Target or Kohls, then I buy 2 6-packs
and swap out all the old ones at the same time. Of course it
freaks out the teens and pre-teens in the house that Dad
wears white socks. Its a great blackmail item. hee-hee

The diff is that they don't have seams and elastic, which can irritate
and hinder circulation. At least the ones I've seen advertised for
diabetics don't. They also don't hold moisture against the skin. I
personally don't use them, but many do. YMMV :-)

The only socks I can wear are from Walgreen's. They only
come in black. (At least that's all I've found)

These work very well for me when I want a longer sock.
They are not an overly thick sock and they have a unique
design. The lower part of the sock is a bit thicker
(although not thick as socks go) and the top part is very
thin. They do not bind at all, even when I have problems
with swelling in my feet and legs. And I can have very bad
problems with swelling.

There are a wide variety of diabetic socks for different
reasons. Most are white. The reason for that is that if you
have Neuropathy you could step on something and not notice
it. If your foot bleeds, you'd instantly see the blood on
the white sock. Many of them have cushioned bottoms to help
protect our feet. Many have anti-microbial properties to
guard against infection. Many are non-binding. And some over
oversized to very oversized. I have some that are downright
clownish, but I need them at times due to swelling.

You may or may not need diabetic socks. I have problems with
my legs and also my feet. Due to swelling and some other
problems, my feet not only got longer and wider, but also a
lot thicker. Prior to diabetes, I probably had the world's
largest sock assortment. People used to compliment me all
the time because I always matched my socks to my outfit. I
had all sorts of fancy, embellished socks as well as some
plain ones. But after diabetes, I found that I couldn't get
my feet into most of those socks any more. And sometimes
when I did get my feet in there, the tops would cut off my
circulation. I also found that any socks with a built in
arch were extremely painful.

I have found some regular socks I can wear. The problem is
that I've thrown out so many pairs of socks that I could not
wear, or wound up giving them to my husband, that I got
cautious and when a sock looked promising, I'd buy just one
pair. Then invariably when I went back to get more, there
were no more and I could never find them again. I usually do
best with sports types socks and often buy the mens because
they are bigger. I now wear a size 9 shoe and due to my wide
feet, that would equate to a size 10 shoe. This is usually
the upper limit for women's socks, although some brands make
larger ones.

I should also add that the only times I wear these socks now
is to bed. During the day I must wear yucky compression
stockings due to a vein problem that is not necessarily
related to diabetes.

I live in DC. There seems to be an association for
_everything_, and many of them are right around here.

This looks like the typical type of assn whose members are
the makers/marketers/etc. of the things. I'll have to take a
closer look next time I'm near there -- I can't seem to find
a reference in the phone book or google.

Thanks! My next door neighbors are moving to DC this summer.
They wanted WA state, but got DC instead. Seems like
