I plan to ride a 150 mi race in July. I do an hour of cardio 5x/wk, but haven't been cycling very much. Any suggestions?

Only advice I can think of is....don't do it. 150 miles is a long ride, let alone race. Of course, I don't know your current fitness or capability for training or suffering, but most athletes take several seasons and many thousands of miles of cycling to build up to a long event like this.
If you're not already riding 75 miles or more on your long rides now, and getting in a solid 100-150 miles a week, I don't believe you can get there from here....at least not without a lot of pain.

If you are very fit its a 6 hour ride, if you are new to cycling 8 hours or more. Your backside will hate you. If your goal is to just finish you "might" make it, if you want to compete I say you will be disappointed. I gather you are reasonably fit with 5hr cardio a week, this will help you but not enough...seriously mate, try for next year mabey.

ara,
You're gonna die! Nothing personal, but that's not a very realistic goal. I've been training for a year straight and just completed my first 60 mile ride yesterday. Everything hurts today. Even my hair hurts!
My goal is to complete (not race) a century by the end of September. After yesterday's ride I know I'm nowhere near that level of fitness and I can do 3 hours of cardio at 84% (just under LT) of my MaxHR of 185 beats per minute in the gym.
As a suggestion you may want to hop on the bike you plan to use for this event and take it out one day and see how many miles you can put in before you bonk. That will give you a good idea of how much you will have to train before doing a 150 mile race.

Dude...don't let them scare you....you can do it if you get your ass in gear and your wheels spinning.
I've been riding for two months now, only two months, and am up to 300+ miles per week. If you train like a [censored], at least 5 days a week, and put in the miles, I'm sure you can do it. Find a club around where you live or just do it yourself. Get in the mindset that nothing can stop you from doing what you want to do. If you keep up with your present program, however, you'll die after 20 miles. Get in the mileage and start it now!!
Let the demons out, man.

Let the demons out, man.If you've only been riding a bike for two months, and are now up to 300+ miles per week, that's very impressive. You must have a strong athletic background and high overall aerobic fitness levels to bring to the table.
Sustaining 300+ miles week after week, while staying injury-free, is an accomplishment in itself. Hope you continue to progress and stay injury-free.

Let the demons out, man.M8 I like your attitude, you will go far or fizzle and die, one of the two. How ever, there is a huge differance between doing 300 mile in a week (not bad btw) and racing 150 miles. I think it would be detrimental to the longevity of Ara's cycling caree (and mabee Ara 😉 )to push that hard that fast. Can it be done, Yes. Should it be done, Not in my humble opinion.
