I'm going to my brother's for Easter Sunday, I said I'd bring dessert.
Well, I decided to make devilled eggs, and maybe green beans, too.
Of course the devilled eggs reminded me of this silly story from some
time back:
I went to a relatives over Easter. She's getting a little
confused (hey, she's in her 80's, she has a right to). Phone
rings that morning, Nance! about the time. Sure, what's up?
Well, when we made plans, it was for 1 o'clock, the old
time. So, is it 1 o'clock the old time? Or 1 o'clock the new
time? (daylight savings time occurred the night before) Rest
assured, my side of the conversation was hilarious as I
tried to reassure her she could go to church because it
would be 1 o'clock the new time when I arrived.
Okay, got that set, I'll call you before I leave, so you'll
know not to expect me for another hour or so. Meanwhile,
laughing on the inside.
Alright? Oh, one more thing! I'm having a problem with the
devilled eggs. Really? What's the matter? They won't stand
up, they keep falling over. Oh, no kidding ... well, try
putting them next to each other so they hold each other up,
but it's no big deal, don't worry about it.
I get there ... you'll have to picture this ... you know how
you cut eggs for devilled eggs? The long way? She cut them
the other way, across.
I can't tell you how surreal this plate of eggs looked.
Bigger circles and smaller circles. The smaller circles, not
having a cavity, had very little of the devilled filling,
and the bigger circles, being more or less all cavity, had a
lot of filling ... so it was small white circles and big
yellow ones. Oddly reminded me of some weird psychedelic
graphics from the 60's. All those round eggs, squished
together on a plate.
She laughed when she found out what she'd done ... well ...
differently. It was good for a laugh.
