A short while back, Sandy Birrell was kind enough to give me
vital information in my search for some knee length walking
socks with loop stitch feet and (cooler) ribbed legs. He
pointed me to Reekies of Grasmere.
When the socks arrived, they were short and not long - c'est
la vie ......... BUT
The good news is that they were sent, not by Reekies, but by
the makers who are Denton House in Gosforth and a phone call
(019467 25110) soon put the matter right - easily because I
also wanted some short socks..
The news is particularly good because I have found that
Denton House sell direct, at about a pound a pair less than
the middle men in Grasmere.
You folks, who don't walk in breeches, won't care about long
socks anyway but those of us who do and, I'm told by Denton
House, a heck of a lot of Scotsmen, will be glad to learn
that although they are the only makers of this design in the
UK (they claim) they plan to expand into direct selling on
the net, very soon.
OK - that's paid my dues to the ng and to Sandy, I hope.
