  1. According to my little spreadsheet I've just completed 52
weeks of WW. In that time I've lost 33 pounds, 3.5" from my
bust, 5.5" from my waist, 6" from my hips, 3" from my
thighs, 1.5" from my calves and at least 2" from my upper
arms (I started measuring them partway through).

My average weekly loss is 0.63 pounds. In my previous
attempts I'd have been mighty discouraged by that number.
I'd have been mentally berating myself for not losing at
least 2 pounds a week. But over this year I've come to a few
    realizations:

    - My system just does not lose weight easily, and there's no
point in comparing myself to someone who loses 10 pounds a
month and feeling bad about it. The overall trend is a
    LOSS, and that's what's important.

    - This journey, so far, hasn't been nearly as bad as I
thought it would be. In some respects it hasn't been easy
though either. It's much easier to just forget about the
plan and eat "normally", which of course results in
putting ON more weight instead of taking it off. It's much
easier to order pizza for dinner than to actually make
    something, even salad. However...

    - I've also discovered that my taste for food is changing. I
can't stand the thought of overly greasy food anymore. My
pizza of choice used to be the meat lovers, now I don't
think I could eat a slice of
it. OTOH thin crust veggie pizza is very good.

    - You get surprised by the people around you. Some of them
won't comment on the weight loss at all, although they
must notice going from a size 22 to a 14/16. Some people
that you didn't expect to be supportive will make very
nice comments. And some people that you did expect to be
supportive won't be at all. There's a lot of emotional
baggage with excess weight, and it's not all yours.

I'm looking forward to the next 52 weeks!

  2. What a great summary of the last 52 weeks. I know what you
mean about the being discouraged by the slow loss, but a
loss is better than a gain or maintain any day. You have
done a great job, keep up the excellent work. Looking
forward to reading more of your reports. Michelle Ozzie in

  3. Good god woman. What a great post. Such insights into
yourself and others. WTG! Happy anniversary and congrats on
your progress. I'm raising my glass of water to your
continued success this coming year. Hopefully we will be
here together this time next year. My 1 year anniversary is
4/27 so I am only weeks behind you.

  6. Happy ANNIVERSARY.

Congrats on your year long endeavor and your accomplishment
    - losing weight and losing inches. Also your mental
accomplishments over the year are also worthy of
    celebration.

I must be a similar type. I've been doing this about 18
months, and have a 35+ lb loss, and similar losses in
inches. I expect I'd have lost a bit more if it hadn't been
for the illness last year (judging by the increase in losses
since Christmas), but I'm not going to grizzle about it:
gone is gone! You have an excellent attitude. You can deal
with your own emotional baggage, but let other folk carry
    their own!

I've had a few little setbacks here and there - some gains
now and then, some illnesses... and I've decided basically
so what. That's life. And this program is something that's
designed to fit with life. You pick up, you keep going. And
I think that's the difference with this time around.

And I've found that, along the way, I've never thought "oh
    well, I'll start again <whenever>. I haven't allowed
myself to think that way, because if you can get a "do
over" whenever you want then you don't need to have any
real commitment to it. It's like playing a video game, if
you're not doing well you just press the reset button.
Although it's true that yes, if you fall "off the wagon"
you most certainly can just get right back up. But I find
that I never let myself think that I'm off the wagon.
Peering over the edge sure, several times. But whenever I
stray too far I don't allow myself the option of starting
over some other time, I have to tell myself that I am NOT
too badly off program to continue, that I can continue
right from where I am and there's no reason to wait until
    <whenever> to restart.

My fear is that if I allow myself that, if I go offprogram
and say "oh well, I'll start again on Monday" that it will
in effect give me license to overeat between then and Monday
thus leaving me worse off than I would be if I had taken
charge of the situation right then.

According to my little spreadsheet I've just completed 52
weeks of WW. In that time I've lost 33 pounds, 3.5" from
my bust, 5.5" from my waist, 6" from my hips, 3" from my
thighs, 1.5" from my calves and at least 2" from my upper
arms (I started measuring them partway through).

My average weekly loss is 0.63 pounds. In my previous
attempts I'd have been mighty discouraged by that number.
I'd have been mentally berating myself for not losing at
least 2 pounds a week. But over this year I've come to a
    few realizations:

    - My system just does not lose weight easily, and there's
no point in comparing myself to someone who loses 10
pounds a month and feeling bad about it. The overall
trend is a LOSS, and that's what's important.

    - This journey, so far, hasn't been nearly as bad as I
thought it would be. In some respects it hasn't been
easy though either. It's much easier to just forget
about the plan and eat "normally", which of course
results in putting ON more weight instead of taking it
off. It's much easier to order pizza for dinner than to
actually make something, even salad. However...

    - I've also discovered that my taste for food is changing.
I can't stand the thought of overly greasy food anymore.
My pizza of choice used to be the meat lovers, now I
don't think I could eat a slice of

  13. Congrats on your 1 year anniversary!! I think the best
thing about the journey is learning the behaviours that are
going to make us successful long term!! Like veggie thin

I must be a similar type. I've been doing this about 18
months, and have a 35+ lb loss, and similar losses in
inches. I expect I'd have lost a bit more if it hadn't
been for the illness last year (judging by the increase in
losses since Christmas), but I'm not going to grizzle
about it: gone is gone! You have an excellent attitude.
You can deal with your own emotional baggage, but let
    other folk carry their own!

I've had a few little setbacks here and there - some gains
now and then, some illnesses... and I've decided basically
so what. That's life. And this program is something that's
designed to fit with life. You pick up, you keep going.
And I think that's the difference with this time around.

My fear is that if I allow myself that, if I go offprogram
and say "oh well, I'll start again on Monday" that it will
in effect give me license to overeat between then and
Monday thus leaving me worse off than I would be if I had
taken charge of the situation right then.
