  1. i'm starting to drink tea. how long do people usually leave
the tea bags in the hot water

  2. I don't use bags as the quality of tea most often available
in that form is very poor quality. The answer is the
favorite, it depends. 1st on the type of tea, green, oolong,
black. On how strong one wnts it, which often depends on if
using it in the chinese style without milk or sweetners or
not. 3rd on the brewing approach taken based on the amount
of tea for a given size pot for a given time for a given
water temperature; all a matter of preference. Chinese style
is my biggest vice and can, and has been, known to consume
whole books to cover the topic. The best answer is to
experiment to discover what pleases you.

As long as it takes to get as strong as you prefer it.

Not over 5 minutes, if you want to avoid bitterness. Tea is
going to be slightly bitter, no matter how you brew it.

When I use tea bags, I find the best way to pull the flavor
from them to get a robust cup of tea is to fill the cup with
water and push the bag into the water until it's wet enough
to stay down. Then, I put it in the microwave for 2 minutes,
15 seconds on High. As soon as I remove it from the
microwave, I pull the tea bag out.

A better way is to boil water in a tea kettle on the stove
and pour the boiling water over the tea bag. Let it steep
for 3-4 minutes and pull the bag out.

The best way is to steep it. Boil water in a tea kettle on
the stove and have tea leaves waiting in the bottom of a
ceramic teapot. Pour the boiling water over the tea leaves
and put the top on the pot. Put a tea cozy over the pot or
wrap it in a dish towel and let it sit for a full 5 minutes.
Pour the tea through a strainer into your cup and enjoy.
