Why do you need a mirror at the mountain?

If a grisly bear is chasing you, you’re helpless with or without mirror 😄

mirrors are for oxy morons, i have never seen a strong rider who uses a mirror.

i use a mirror on some occaisions, but i'm also ok without one. 🙂

I have heard they make helmets with mirrors IN the helmet - guess like a submarine .. "periscope up?" .. probably looks a bit daft; but, could save your life - if it doesn't you look pretty idiotic flailing around on the ground after a spill ..

The helmet with the mirror is at www.reevu.com. Pretty cool for the Europeans. Not good for the USA. No distributors yet.

I love my helmet mirror. It saved my life just the other day. It allowed me to get out of the way of someone not paying attention who had let his car drift to the side of the road. It also helps me to see the idot teenagers leaning out of their car to get a shot at me. It helps me to avoid the lit cigarette that is about to be flipped at me from the car window. It helps me to stay safe in a group ride. I don't care if it looks stupid, amaturish, or dumb. I love to ride, and on my streets it's not safe. I can't ride if I'm busted up or dead from a car hitting me.

Always use one , can´t imagine riding in traffic without being able to check when there´s a truck passing while keeping hands on bars where they belong .
One point don´t be too obssed with weight too light and all they do is vibrate when you need them most ( speed limits here in Europe are a bit higher than the US , 70-80 mph depending on country ) and small light cars can travel a long way between glances over your shoulder .

Never. Primarily because it is amateurish. Be that may, there are other reasons (at least to fortify my vanity). One would be that one may grow too dependant on it, which may not be so safe (like on a motorcycle, always look back). Another is that I don't have to worry about respect and courtesy from other motorists in my location. Ultimately though, there is an outweighing amount of advantages to have one. And I would never knock anyone for having them.

I think it would be really cool if they built a little mirror inside the lenses of sunglasses (like those dinky little spy sunglasses). Of course it maybe close to impossible to fit a pair of cycling glasses with it because of their face-hugging profile. Regardless, I think Rudy Project (the best IMO) should handle its business with that. In fact, I think I'll send them an email...

I never use them, I dont want something sticking off my bike or my head to detract from the overall look. I've thought about getting those little round things that could go in my Oaks, but I've heard about the joints wearing out. I also think its kind of novice to wear a mirror, nobody I ride with does, and the only people I know who've been hit by a car, the car came from the side or in front. + I just think its ugly.

There's one major disadvantage to relying on a mirror ... you won't be able to establish eye contact with other road users behind you. In some situations a hand-signal simply isn't enough.

I can't even think of pulling into a lane (for turning across the road, clearing parked cars, etc.) without doing a proper head-check to see what's about, and also to give the other people on the road the indication that YES, I can see you there just as well as you can see me.

Reading your earlier post are you really suprised noone else lives there? OMG no wonder you guys invented road rage. Someone swiped, flicked a butt or otherwised anoyed me on a ride I think I would hunt him down and do some jail time....
On the mirror thing, I never use, I use ears while racing and no need to have training here, I always thought that our drivers where ignorant morons but mabey they are not so bad, worst you get is a toot just before they pass you

used them years ago, helmet mount. would rather hunt down and mutilate the offending vehicle/occupants after the indiscretion

I use one when I'm riding with my wife, I can't always hear her and that way I can keep an eye on her to make sure she isn't falling back. With her asthma I would hate to leave her behind if she has an attack and I didn't hear her.

I am surprised at all the novice remarks, and/or the remarks about strong riders not using mirrors. Honestly, I have never once used a mirror and do not plan to. I ride because of the simplicity of riding, and gadgets seem to complicate matters. However, to say that it is novice or the rider might not be strong is somewhat shortsighted IMO.

I have been on the loosing side of misjudging a rider based on his Bike or Kit. I will never do that again. When you get your But handed to you by a guy in his late 50's sporting a 1982 steel bike with down tube shifters, and a mirror on his handlebar, you would feel the same way I do. And I am no slouch.
