I was surprised at how few accidents we had this year. Only
one red flag, as far as I know. And the kid was fine, other
than some scrapes and bruises... he had hit the rock jump
and took a spill. Somehow his helmet got jammed between 2
hay bails (with his head still in it!)

I think the worst we had happen on race day was another kid
with heat exhaustion. Other than that there were just a few
accidents on practice day.

So are we going to get another GGG video this year? 🙂
Suhweet! Last years vid rocked. I spoken with many people
who watched it before the race.

nice as always. got a photography question for ya. when
panning, do you change the settings on your camera at all to
get the blurred background or does it just happen? I've been
messing around with it a bit and have had less than stellar
results so far so I wasn't sure if I had some settings
incorrect. of course, I know just enough about manual
settings be dangerous but that's a seperate issue.

Drop the shutter speed by stopping down the aperature.

The panned shots in the shade were at around 1/100 sec (with
fill flash) and the panned shots in the bright sun were
around 1/300 sec.

If you shoot in auto mode in low light yes, they can just
happen because the camera will drop the shutter speed for
you (don't forget the flash though).

I usually use 1/60 to 1/125, but I tend to enjoy more
blurriness.

Make sure you meter the scene in which you'll actually take
the picture. Example: the person may be coming out of the
deep forest into the bright sun, where your exposure will be
auto-set way too bright. Either meter it manually, or meter
the destination scene shortly before locking the exposure
and going back to the subject.

If you're using a digicam, use the viewfinder and keep both
eyes open. Practice with cars in your spare time.

Can you recommend any newbie resources on the web for
learning more about photography techniques? I've always been
a point-and-click sort of person, but I'd like to progress
to a better level.

yeah, that's what I've been doing but wasn't getting the
blurriness effect. So, I didn't know what I needed to change
or how much. Sometimes, that's the problem with
experiemntation. if you don't know what to change, you may
not always observe the change had an effect.

with the info you and Pete have provided, I forsee many bad
moving vehicle shots will find their way on to the smart
media card!
