  1. Hi all:

Do we have to pay custom or any other sort of duty if new parts come from overseas (coming through post)? Purchase could be from shops or e-bay.

    Cheers,
    Amir.

  2. In theory yes. However, in practice, you don't always get charged.

Big orders (both in size and in price eg >$200) tend to get taxed.
Small orders may get through without it.

I can't remember the rate of tax but I think it is 36% but hopefully someone will know this definitively.

There have been threads about this before, and hopefully
it's in the FAQ as well, but if you have to pay anything,
it's usually 5% duty plus 10% GST for a total of %15 extra
on the purchase price + shipping.

  4. If it is sent through the post and under $1000, then you
pay no taxes or duties whatsoever. Just make sure it is
sent through THE POST (not Fedex, UPS etc). I have done
this many times before with no problems. The packages just
    arrive at my door.

    Actually not quite.

If more than $50 GST is payable i.e. total value is > $500 then they may ask for taxes/duty, then again they may not... I guess it depends on who sorts the items at the local post office (and in my experience, the size of the box!).

    Cheers,
    Troy
