  1. <rant> WTF are chainrings so damn expensive?

I would've thought that manufacturers have pretty much
got figured out how to make chainrings inexpensively by
now. I mean they're not exactly high-tech even with all
    the ramps and pins.

    Surely it must be profiteering?

It seems impossible to get road chainrings for less than
about $120 a pair. Surprisingly BBB chainrings are actually
    more expensive than Shimano too.

    Am I missing something? </rant>

Why do you think inkjet cartridges cost more than some low
    end printers? :-)

I've wondered about that too. BBB aren't the only brand more
expensive than Shimano originals. I can only put it down to
    lack of economy of scale.

Heh. You have my sympathy. I've just been through this
exercise and that was only for a Shimano 44T 4-bolt. Road
chainrings must be hell, even from the American sites
(example, Sheldon Brown has the Shimano Ultegra 52T for
    USD39.99 - roughly AUD52 and change and then there's
    shipping to factor in).
