  1. I've been counting my Curves sessions and "any other
activity I engage in for over 30 minutes which causes me to
break a sweat" (not counting nervousness--tee hee) as
exercise. For example, I spent 2 hours helping clean the
grounds of a local org, required a lot of bending and toting
heavy bags (sweating!)--and I counted that as one exercise
    session last week.

This week I suggested to DH that on my non-Curves days we
could do some yoga together. My question is, does yoga count
as exercise for the purposes of SIA? If you go by the
qualification of needing to break a sweat, I really don't
while doing yoga; however, it is an activity that does other
good things for the body and at the very least puts you in
    touch with your physical self.

Maybe I didn't read the rules closely enough, but what do
    you think--does yoga count?

    Thanks, SciFi

  2. Personally, I consider yoga exercise. I work out for an hour
when I do water aerobics, yet never break a sweat. My heart
gets pumping but it is not strenuous to the point of
sweating. Personally, as long as you are participating in
something to get some exercise, then it should count. Also
yoga is a lot of breathing exercises and also stretching and
is a very good workout for your body. So count it!!!

  3. My personal feeling is that "exercise" is 20 minutes of
physical activity that you would not normally have done. I
    was going to use the
Dr. Phil phrase of "intentional exercise" but then that
excludes those times when you're doing something out of
the ordinary that's labour intensive but not
necessarily something you intended to do (like, for
    instance, sand-bagging).

I definitely count yoga as exercise. It's not exactly
cardiovascular, but it does give the muscles a good workout.

It depends on why you want to do exercise.

If you do it for cardio then you need to get the heart rate
up for an extended period. Without a heart monitor my rule
of thumb is that if you are out of breath and sweating then
you are doing the job. (out of breath means you have the
heart rate up, and sweating means you have been doing the
exercise for a while). I do weight lifting sessions and it
depends on what exercises I do as to whether I get my heart
rate up high enough, and I rarely sweat unless I'm doing
heavy deadlifts. So it doesn't count as cardio. It does
    count as (anaerobic) exercise though.

I think it's your call as to whether you count yoga as
exercise. If it helps your health and or your weight loss
    then count it.
