  1. Tomorrow I am giving a speech to test out of one of my
college classes. It can be on anything I want, so I chose
food, specifically, cakes. I am going to talk about what
makes a cake a cake, basic types of cakes (white/yellow,
foam, cupcakes) and the differences between them, an
overview on the types of pans and cooking methods, and give
example cake types for each (pound cake, carrot cake, angel
    food, etc).

Does it sound like I am missing anything? The speech is 5-7
minutes long, and so far I am more toward the short end.
Usually my speeches are almost too long. Anyway, I have to
get an A on the speech to test out of the course.

Are there any interesting nuggets of information I should
include? I am graded on the presentation, not the content,
but any content that peaks interest helps the presentation.

  2. You might also include Marie Antoinette's "let them eat
cake" quote. Also, tell them about the man who was married
to two women, Edith and Kate. For years neither found out
about the other, but when they did find out, there was hell
to pay. In the middle of all the fighting, the man said
"look, when you didn't know about each other, you were both
happy. What was wrong with that arrangement." The two
consulted and finally told him that he couldn't have his
    Kate and Edith too.

Actually, she said "Let them eat brioche." True. "Qu'ils
    mangeant de la brioche."

Perhaps talk about the kind of cakes that aren't baked.
Johnnycakes. Pancakes. English "puddings" that are steamed
cakes, like suet cake and plum pudding. Why are there cakes
at weddings? How did the custom of birthday cakes begin?

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake baker man bake me a cake as fast as
    you can...

Mention Marcel Proust's reveries when confronted with that
haunting tea cake called a "madelaine."

Well then you must bring cake to share...feeding hungry
graders is customary, right? Don't students feed their

Whoops. Not any more - contrary to the opinion of Bill Cosby
(Himself) cake is now considered by many school boards as

Well if your primarily concerned with "peaking the interest"
of the presentation and your not graded on content then I
can only recommend the solution that will in fact give you
100% interest from your professor. And that is to give a
presentation on the art of presentations... As of now your
banking on your professor's interest in cooking... which may
    not be in your favor..

In many areas no. They are also thinking about banning the
    PTA/O candy fundraisers as well.

Many schools funded extracurricular activities wigh the soda
machine profits. Do a google search for "junk food schools"

You will be flabbergasted. Here's another case wher the

That might have started in my area ... perhaps thirty miles
away, some poor kid knocked on the door selling stuff for
school ... well, only one home was some disturbed teenager.
Found the younger one in a suitcase, dead. Made people

Most Kids now stand in front of stores with a parent nearby.
The door to door days are almost over unless a parent is on
    the sidewalk.

What a sad comment on society........
