Anyone using a Hub Dyno? Yes,Lots. I and several others use
the SON[Schmidt]. It IMHO is the best hub dyno.

Oh yes. I have one on my UCI-illegal recumbent (a SON) and
one on my tourer (a Shimano Nexus). Excellent things. No
noticeable drag when the lights are off, not a lot when
they are on, never slip in the rain, can't recommend them
highly enough.

Hi

A hub dynamo will not generate enough power to assist a 500W
Crystalyte and most certainly will not help a 9,000W E-TEK.
I have used a dynamo for basic lighting and they are silent
and quite efficient...but when you stop, the lights go
off...although I have heard of people in G.B. using the
dynamo to act as a trickle charger and when they stop, the
lights stay on via the batts.

Such devices are apparently available throughout Europe-
they're commonly called "standlights".
