Setting up a team

Has a lot to do with the goals of the team. If its a local gig, then an open roster normally works fine. Just dont expect as much in the form of results / dedication.

If you are talking about a more focused program with actual sponsorship money to help support expenses, a typical team will have riders to cover each of the roles needed to be effective (climbers, sprinters, single day road, multi day all around riders, plus support/developing riders). But you can only have as many riders as your budget will support.

Bigger budget, more riders with specific focuses. Small budget, less riders with more all around ability. Sometimes being a killer recruiter is the real make or break factor in putting together a good team.

The gig is basically local vets (30-39) league races and a 5 day stage race. Very competitive here in SA and a good standard. We will have a budget for entry fees and kit for the riders. Group is about 60 strong and we have 5 really strong riders and about 5 who are getting there. i wanted to put all 10 into the fray so we could have a real presence in the races but dont want to overdo it.

Does 10 riders sound OK ?

10 riders would be great, but to make it work they all have to be totally commited, and ride 100% for the team. Good Luck with the tour.
