  1. Well, kids, being in between houses (moving into town from
the country) some of my groceries are here and some are
there...I was craving London Broil...I have invented a
marinade out of leftover Chardonnay and a couple of exotic
salad dressings. Will post if it's delicious! Anybody else
    have any emergency marinade ideas?

Soy sauce with a few sprinkles of garlic powder and fresh
ground black pepper works great for red meat items.

  3. Naturally it would depend on the flavor you're going for,
but I almost always have lite soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice
wine vinegar, garlic, and ginger in the house. It adds a
nice color to chicken. I also like herbs de provence, olive
oil, Grey Poupon, and a splash of balsamic vinegar. For
pork, it's hard to beat Stubbs' Moppin' Sauce straight out
of the bottle. And say what you will about the man, but
Emeril's Essence (I make it without the salt) made into a
paste with a little olive oil, lemon juice, and
Worcestershire sauce isn't bad. In fact, that's all I use
    essence for.

  4. A bottle of Italian dressing will do in a pinch, but if you
have the ingredients, so will this.

How "exotic" are these salad dressings? 🙂 for quick
marinade for London Broil (the recipe; it's not a cut of
beef) I like to use oil and vinegar Italian dressing, a
splash of Chardonney and ground black pepper.

One of the best flank steak marinades I've had was olive oil
mixed with a packet of Good Seasons' Italian dressing mix.
No vinegar. It was really tasty.

They are really neat Vidalia onion mixes involving all sorts
of interesting stuff...one of them is the onions with
raspberry puree. I follow a pretty strict weight-
control/health regime and don't have any "bought" dressings
with oil. When I want one like that I use the good old olive
oil and vinegar base. Actually, I eat pretty well, so don't
imagine I am holed up with strange foods...;-) (And please,
no paeans about Atkins, South Beach, Zones or anything else.
I have a regime that works for me and keeps me happy. I find
that the word "diet" brings all sorts of unsolicited
advice). Anyway, I get these at one of those little
"gourmet" markets in town. Speaking of exotic stuff...if you
have not tried goat-cheese brie, you don't know what good
is!!! It tastes like the real French stuff. I know that
London Broil is a recipe, ok? ;-)

Heh. Diet, schmiet. You won't find me touting any of
    those things 🙂

Sounds great! I'll look for it; I adore brie.

Hey, no offense intended. Some people who post here still
seem to think it's a cut of beef so that statement was for
    general edification.

You didn't mention how the marinade turned out for
    this recipe.
