  1. What's your most humorous account/s, of the most chocolate
that you've ever ate in one sitting (or whatever it is you
were doing), be it with normal chocolate, or a chocolate
cake of any kind, mousse, pudding, or a combo of all.

My best story was a certain incident with dark chocolate
pudding with chocolate whip cream and hot fudge on top.
Myself and a friend ate a batch meant for 40 generous
servings. Needless to say we didn't eat chocolate again
    for a week.

Only a week... one would think you couldn't eat anything for
    at least a month.

Many years ago I worked for Barton's Bonbonnaire as an after
school job, where employeees could consume all they wanted
on the premises, just coun't bring any home. Needless to say
after about a week of gorging (didja ever eat 100 stem
cherries during a 4 hour shift) I couldn't eat chocolate
    again for over a year.

It's a wonder you lived to tell about it. Chocolate in huge
    quantites is toxic.

A friend once ate a pound of Godiva truffles at one
sitting (actually, on the way home from the store in the
car). The chocolate triggered cluster migraines which
    lasted over a week.

Huh. Well, I guess it boils down to tolerance build up
then... 'cuz I have definitely eaten more than that without
any problems... Hmmm, in fact, I do recall eating 21
packages of the 2-pack Reese's Peanut Butter Cups in high
school ( I was selling them for some fund raiser. Your
money, her money, my money... money's money.). I was hungry
and had a craving. In no time at all I had 21 empty
packages and was quite surprised to see that! I'm still not
sure that I got $ 10.50 worth of satisfaction at of them
    though. : / <shrug>

There are alot of myths about chocolate. Chocolate is toxic.
Chocolate causes acne. Chocolate is fattening. Chocolate
causes headaches/migraines. Etc..... Chocolate is not toxic.
Anything in large quantities can cause problems, but the
amount of chocolate you'd need to eat is enormous, and alot
more than your friend ate in truffles. If you know of a case
of poisoning by chocolate or death by chocolate that isn't a
recipe, I'd love to see it. As for chocolate causing
headaches and/or migraines....chocolate is a factor in less
than 15%, so I guess it just depends on who you are. I have
migraines, but not from chocolate. Bright light of any kind,
even sun light, will trigger migraines for me. That doesn't
    make it toxic.

About 15 years ago, watching the NCAA basketball tournament
first round games, I went through a 2-lb package of Snickers
miniatures and three six-packs of Pepsi in 11 hours. Went to
the store the next morning and bought more. I offset the
sugar with about 3 packs of smokes. Never missed a minute of
    the games back then.

I've got "war stories" to fill an entire book. But I think
of 3 that really stand out.

Many Easters ago, at the age of 4, I received one of the
most beautiful Easter presents ever - a chocolate turtle
with a hollow shell, in which were stuffed multiple small
chocolate "turtle babies". The whole assembly was probably
pushing 1 lb. Well, I became instantly enamoured of this
creation, and ate the whole thing - in one sitting. This was
my first real experience with chocolate overdose. My, was I
sick! My sister, meanwhile, not a chocolate-lover, got the
same thing - and she didn't finish hers until 3 months
later! Not that this experience blunted my passion for
chocolate, and, I have to admit, if I had to do it over
    again, I'd still do
it. 30 minutes of sheer pleasure are worth 10 hours of
    sheer torture.

When El Rey first started to distribute to my area, I
    naturally had to try
iu. Well, back then they didn't have retail bars, and so I
bought a 1 kg bar of the Gran Saman. At that time I
didn't quite know it was a considerably stronger 70%
chocolate than anybody else's, thanks to a low cocoa
butter content. And I also wasn't really paying
attention to how much I was eating. In any case, I ate
the entire bloc. At once. So then I'm walking up to the
local coffee shop (I usually get a coffee about 10 pm or
so). Gradually, I start to feel hyper-energised. Wow,
this is great! I'm virtually flying to the coffee shop.
Seems great, for a time, but then 2 hours later, I'm
starting to feel dizzy, light-headed. This is wierd. Am
I hyperventilating? Is the oxygen level in the house too
low? I decide maybe I'll take a walk in the fresh air.
No, this doesn't improve anything. Now I'm feeling
spacey, out of it, completely disoriented. I got pretty
scared. Is this ever going to end? I had about 4 hours
of this before my brain stopped spinning enough for me
to fall asleep. It wasn't until morning that it was
    truly gone.

But perhaps the greatest amount of intake, in terms of the
main flavour constituent and of mind-altering chemicals, was
the time I made a pane alla cioccolata (chocolate bread)
*entirely* with cocoa, save for the addition of a small
amount of gluten flour. So in the loaf I had perhaps 4 cups
of cocoa. In one sitting, I ate half the loaf! That's 2 cups
of pure, unadulterated cocoa powder. At least after the Gran
Saman experience, I knew what to expect when the first
symptoms hit me. Uh-oh. This is going to be bad. Better open
the windows and lie down NOW. It turned out I had to
convalesce for *all* of the next day - the withdrawal wasn't
complete until the following night. Based on this
experience, I can conclude that the claim that Montezuma
drank 50 cups of chocolate a day is apocryphal, at least at
face value. It's possible that this number refers to
Montezuma and his court, in which case I could believe the
figure, or it could have been a number claimed for symbolic
and ritual purposes - not an actual tally of how many cups
were consumed but simply a sufficiently large number to
indicate that the consumption was huge.

I don't know if this counts, but once, many years ago and
far away, I was reading a book and had opened a bag of
Oreos. I looked up at some point and realized I had eaten
the whole thing. I really can't look at an Oreo to this day

Humph! I'm not promising anything...but I would like to have
the recipe too, please? I'll share my Chocolate Zucchini
Loaf recipe as a trade. It's very good and very moist but
doesn't have 4 cups of cocoa powder.

    Cyndi

    Cyndi's Chocolate Zucchini Loaf

    3 c Flour
    1/4 c Cocoa 1 TBSP Cinnamon
2/2 tsp Baking Powder 1 tsp Baking Soda 1 tsp Salt 2 c
    Sugar 3 Eggs
    3/2 c Oil 2 tsp Vanilla Extract 1 Banana 2 c grated Zucchini
    1 c chopped Nuts 1 c Semi-sweet Chocolate chips or chunks

    Heat oven to 350. Grease two 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 pans. In large
bowl, combine Flour, cocoa, cinnamon, Baking POWDER & SODA,
& Salt. Mix well and set aside. In medium bowl, combine
Sugar & Eggs; beat well. Add Oil, vanilla & Banana; beat
until combined. Stir in Zucchini and add Flour Mixture.
Stir until just moistened. Stir in Nuts & Chocolate Pour
into pans & bake 55-60 min. Cool in Pans for 10 min. Then
    finish on racks.

    No problem.

First, be aware that with making bread, there's as much art
as science involved, in other words, a recipe will only take
you so far. This is very much a "nominal" recipe which you
should adjust and tune for the feel of the dough, ambient
temperature and humidity, different brands of cocoa, etc.

    That said, here's the base:

    All-Cocoa Bread

    4+ cups unsweetened cocoa, preferably low-fat, non-Dutch
    process. 1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup gluten flour 1 tbsp salt 2+ cups water
    4/2 cake fresh yeast

Sift the cocoa and gluten flour together, then mix in the
sugar until fully blended. Heat about 1/4 cup water to
lukewarm and dissolve the yeast in it. Pour the rest of
the water into a large bowl and dissolve the salt in it.
After the yeast has sat for about 5 minutes, pour about 3
cups of the cocoa mix along with the yeast into the bowl
with the water and stir with a fork vigourously, until
smooth. Now add about another 2 cups of the mix and mix
in, using a light kneading action, with your hands. Once
the resultant dough forms a (rather sticky) ball, allow it
to sit for about 5 minutes. Now blend in as much of the
rest of the cocoa mix as will prevent extreme stickiness,
dust your hands with cocoa, and knead vigourously, until
the ball becomes very smooth. Knead in a bit more water
lightly, enough to restore some stickiness, cover the bowl
with a towel, and set in a cool place to rise. Let it rise
enough to reach at least 1 3/4 volume (doubling probably
won't be realistic), then punch down very gently. Allow it
to rise again to the same volume, punch down again, and
set into a loaf pan. It's easiest if the loaf pan is lined
with parchment. Heat the oven to 350F, put the loaf in,
and bake until the bottom, when tapped sharply, responds
with a dry THUK rather than a dull THUD and the smell is
*extremely* chocolatey. (Sorry for the qualitative
description here, but this is the only way, really, to do
it - timings are quite subjective) Remove at once and set
on a cooling rack to cool.

The resulting loaf will be very dense, like a dark German
rye bread, as opposed to an ordinary wheat loaf. You cut it
similarly to those types of all-rye breads, namely, very
thin. This loaf should yield 16 slices, and you must resist
the urge to eat more than a slice at a time, because each
one contains roughly the same cocoa content as a 100g 70%
bittersweet chocolate bar. I don't recommend toasting it -
all you'll do is scorch the cocoa. It's especially good with
raspberry jam, or with hazelnut butter. There's no real need
to freeze it - it will keep very well, given the extreme
    cocoa percentage.

As I hint above, cocoa comes not only in Dutch or non-Dutch
    variants, but also in high-fat (~24%) and low-fat (~7%)
types. Many of the common cocoas, such as Hershey's and
Ghirardelli, are high-fat (and they're also non- Dutch).
Most of the organic cocoas are low-fat, non-Dutch. Michel
Cluizel makes a superb one ("Clear" - his other one "Dark"
is high-fat, and equally superb) which if you can find I
recommend. You can use high-fat if that's all you can find -
it will have some impact on the texture (which will be more
    crumbly) but won't be inedible.

    I can't match that one....I love chocolate
mousse/pudding/ice cream/souffle, but if people could get a
hang over from chocolate, that surely would have done it for
the two of you. I get a mild chocolate hangover from
    watching the movie Chocolat.

In the past I have od'd on one of those big bags of M&M's,
also on Hershey bars, before I knew what GOOD chocolate was
like. (I still can't stand Hershey's chocolate bars, but I
do like Hershey's syrup over vanilla ice cream.) One time, a
friend of mine who knows I love chocolate gave me one of
those Trader Joe's pound plus chocolate bars. Just looking
at it made me feel mildly nauseous. I used part of it for
baking, but it got stale before it was half gone.

I'd rather have one really superb chocolate truffle than a
massive quantity of mediocre chocolate. I prefer getting my
chocolate in the form of brownies or chocolate mousse better
than just biting into solid chocolate. However, with Easter
coming up, I'm always having to fight with myself about
going into See's Candies and buying one of those bags of
solid milk chocolate eggs...They're small, they're made of
very good chocolate, and they melt so seductively on the
tongue... Dang, and See's is closed at this time of night!

whatever it is you were doing), be it with normal
chocolate, or a chocolate cake of any kind, mousse,
pudding, or a combo of all.

My best story was a certain incident with dark chocolate
pudding with chocolate whip cream and hot fudge on top.
Myself and a friend ate a batch meant for 40 generous
servings. Needless to say we didn't eat chocolate again
    for a week.

It's a wonder you lived to tell about it. Chocolate in
    huge quantites is toxic.

A friend once ate a pound of Godiva truffles at one
sitting (actually, on the way home from the store in the
car). The chocolate triggered cluster migraines which
    lasted over a week.

Migraines- like most non-trauma-induced back and spine
problems - are caused by stress- not chocolate.

If you believe you're going to get a migraine from eating
    chocolate, chances are you will.

Chocolate actually contains an ingredient that will actually
    relieve a migraine.

Belive that- and you won't suffer when you eat your next
    Hershey Bar.

Actually Hershey Bar is a bad example - as those are barely
    chocolate.

maybe your experience was a blessing in disguise. <g> I
heard that chocolate was the most addicting substance
known to mankind. Whether it's true or not, I can't
verify. In any case, I've never been a big chocolate
eater. It's good, I like it, but I don't crave it and one
*normal* sized candy bar is plenty enough for me. I
    usually can't even finish one.

Yeah it was an experience that has stayed with me. I've
forgotten a lot of things over the years, but I can remember
that night like it just happened yesterday <g>.

I remember an article several years ago about a woman
artist who took a 500 pound block of chocolate and gnawed
at it with her teeth. It was then put on display. (The
    corners were pretty rounded!)

She had done the same thing a couple of years earlier but
with a huge cube of lard. Those pieces she spewed out were
then made into lipsticks and sold for charity, according
    to the article.

Now THERE'S an appetizing thought... Honestly, if she wanted
to sculpt chocolate with her teeth, fine. But I personally
wouldn't be all that interested in the result. Not enough to
pay money to see it, at any rate. </end grump>

    No problem.

First, be aware that with making bread, there's as much
art as science involved, in other words, a recipe will
only take you so far. This is very much a "nominal" recipe
which you should adjust and tune for the feel of the
dough, ambient temperature and humidity, different brands
    of cocoa, etc.

Thank you so much for the recipe. I will try it as soon
as I am up to bread making again. 🙂
