  1. I'm looking for cycling routes in Jersey County. A couple
of years ago I went on a group ride from Pere Marquette
State Park to Alton and back on the Vadalabene Trail. On
the way back we detoured into Elsah for lunch. The next day
we drove through Elsah looking for a pottery place (which
turned out to be closed) but continued north from there. As
I recall the roads looked prime for cycling; winding
country roads through rolling hills. At the time I thought
we should have cycled there instead of the somewhat boring
    Vadalabene Trail.

Ever since I've been entertaining the idea of returning with
a small group to ride those back roads. Does anyone from the
St. Louis area have some routes in the area north of
    Grafton/Elsah?

  2. spfldcycling.orgspfldcycling.org Once a year we do a group ride from south
of I72 alongside one side of the Illinois river, take a ferry across,
and ride up the other side, for about 60 miles total. Free for members
and guests. If you look through last years schedule, you should be able
to locate the ride leader and call them for a copy of last years map.
And you can order maps for free from
    dot.state.il.usbikehome.htm

There's also a good local map of the county. I picked one up
on the Golden Eagle Ferry. This is the ferry that crosses to
highway B in St. Charles County, Missouri.
