Moab Race Report
by: Daniel Olsen
On Friday morning, my younger brother Russell, Dad and I
left for our 4th trip to Moab Utah. It was a very long trip.
It took about 6 hours. We went to the Adobe Abode, the cool
hotel that we always go to. We watched the North Carolina
Tar Heels almost upset Gonzaga in the March Madness. We ate
at the Moab Brewery and ate a good pre race dinner. We
watched TV and fell asleep.
On Saturday morning it got very hot during the race. At the
end of the race , it was 80 degrees which was the warmest
Moab ever. We warmed up and stretched with Margie. Russell
and I were running the half marathon while Dad ran the five
miler. I was a little too far back when the race started
which slowed me down a little I ran really smart with good
form but I wish I would have pushed myself the last four
miles. I saw another kid named Daniel who was running his
first half marathon. He started off way too fast and I
passed him at the 6 mille mark. The gels gave me enough
energy to do well. The course looked very awesome and I
finished at a 1:33. We also got some big sunburns.
We didn't PR but we got 2 first-place age group trophies.
Dad was a little bit prideful and showed them off out of the
car window and to people at almost every store. He was
saying "That's what I'm talkin' about. I'm talkin' about
hardware." So we ate a great lunch, and drove racecars
around the track. We watched Jaws and went to the hot tub.
In the morning we left and visited Grandmas. I was very
proud of this race.
