  1. I'm up a pound and I'm not sure why. Earlier in the week the
scale was showing progress in the downward direction, but
    now...*sigh*

I am discouraged and it's hard keeping the thoughts of
"you're never going to lose weight" out of my head right
now. The critic looks at me in the mirror and can see the
weight depositing itself on my body. Not having an easy time
duct taping the critic's mouth shut either, but at least I'm
not going on a food binge so that's something.

I hope that this is due to needing more fiber and having a
bit too much soy sauce last night with with my snack (2
points: crab sticks with wasabi, ginger, and soy).

I bought a fresh produce guide from the grocery store and
hope to find a store with decent veggies so I can increase
veggie intake. That seems to be a bit low according to the
food diary. I'm disappointed in the veggie selection at the
    grocery stores right now.

    Julie

  2. Hi, Julie, That critic needs to be banished which is easier
written than done. You have a good attitude and I'm sure it
was the soy sauce. Hang in there. Do the program and you
    will soon be a loser.

  3. It is a wonderful NSV that you are not on a binge, it is another one that
you were able to asses your journal and are taking steps to fix your eating.
Don't try taping the critic, try drowning her with water, hang in there, I
know soy does more than a pound damage for me, good luck, Lee

  5. I went to Whole Foods today and went crazy in the fresh
produce section. Amazing berries, asparagus, spinach,
cantaloupe, and grapes-all tastes fresh and amazingly good

  11. Coping with the internal critic can be tricky business. The
more you ignore it, the louder it gets. You cave to try to
get it to be quiet, and suddenly it's got something to yell
about. Some days it feels like you can't win.

BUT the sodium factor is a logical explanation for the
slight increase. And if you aren't eliminating waste, that
too is a logical reason. The two in combination are most
certainly the reason the scale didn't keep its downward
trend. I hate it when that happens!

The number on the scale is just that, a number on the scale.
It is not a reflection of who you are as a person; it is not
    an indictment of your commitment to your weight loss plan;
it's not a sign of failing.

Good for you for weighing, for posting, for sticking with
it. In the long run, sticking with it is what will determine
your eventual success. Even if your internal critic nags you
    the entire way.

I'm up a pound and I'm not sure why. Earlier in the week

    but now...*sigh*

I am discouraged and it's hard keeping the thoughts of
"you're never going to lose weight" out of my head right
now. The critic looks at me in the mirror and can see the
weight depositing itself on my body. Not having an easy
time duct taping the critic's mouth shut either, but at
least I'm not going on a food binge so that's something.

  12. Today is one of those days where I feel like I just
    can't win.

I don't know why it just seems so hard to get with it right
now. I'm taking maintenance poorly right now, but I guess
it's better than not gaining. I've been bouncing around this
weight for entirely too long (close to a year) and I'm
    discouraged.

  13. I don't know if this will help but here's I what I did, and
still try to do, when those internal voices almost get the
best of me. I stay on program anyway. OK, easier said than
done. Here's what I mean, though. Those voices can scream
and holler and yell and nag and accuse and whine, but as
long as I'm weighing and measuring my food and counting my
points and tracking every bite that goes into my mouth, what
those voices say have nothing to do with my weight loss. In
other words, when it comes to food, I follow the program,
even when I'm cowering in the corner shielding myself from
    the internal critics.

Somewhere along the line, I figured out that those
internal voices are complete separate from my external
reality. I discovered that I can be successful at weight
loss AND crazy. That might sound silly, but that was a
    huge insight for me.

It can be difficult to stay positive about maintaining or
gaining when you want to lose. That's when it's important
to look for other signs of success. Sticking with it when
you don't feel like it is a lot harder than sticking with
it when it's easy. Try to see that as the major victory
that it is. The only definition of failure is quitting. As
long as you aren't quitting, you aren't failing. Everything
    else is learning.

  15. Beautiful post and extremely helpful to me. I have
banished by critic today by enjoying my life. Still
staying in points, exercising and drinking water but
    enjoying every minute.
