  1. Hi folks,

Well, I upped my points a little this week, and this week,
I'm up 1 lb. I'm going to stick it out for another week
though. I was detoxing this week - which sometimes causes me
to gain a little. Also, last time I upped my points, it took
a couple of weeks for that to take effect. So, although you
can hear muffled screaming and waving of clenched fists over
here.......I'm going to hang in there for another week, and
hope that things improve. If not, I'll drop the points back
down again, and consider my experiment a failure....... Mind
you, I had to try something, and if nothing else, it should
have shaken my system up a bit.

Hm. This patience thing is trying.......

Have you taken your measurements? How do they look? Most

  9. The bottom line is that you need to feel good about yourself
regardless of your weight. If you're already there then
    you're doing well.

Do you have some old clothing that you could put on and fold
over yourself? That might help if you want to see some
results. Have you had your body fat measured professionally?
That may also give you a lift if you need one too.

  10. Occasionally, I think that with some of my activity levels
soaring, that I am, also, not eating enough but an quite
reluctant to up the ante. I guess maybe journaling in detail
would possibly help. But figuring out the activity points is
still a challenge. So, yes, courageous.

  11. I've been finding myself thinking the same thing the past 2
weeks. My activity isn't soaring quite as high as yours, but
much higher than it ever has been for
me. My eating has remained pretty much the same. My weight
flucuates within the same pound or so. My head is
telling me I should eat more, the new diet program
tells me I should be eating many more calories ... so
why won't/can't I listen? I am very afraid of eating
more, afraid of where it might take me.

  12. Oh, just do it! What's the worst that can happen? You gain a
pound or so. You've proven to yourself over and over again
that you can lose small numbers like that. Try it.

A friend of mine who is all of 119 pounds eats 2200 calories
a day. Her weekly exercise routing includes pilates (2
classes) and every other day cardio. I think you do more
    than that.

eating more is a very hard step to take......I'm hanging in
there......and I hope it works. It worked last time. And I
know how obsessive I have become about my excercise. It
can't be right for that to have increased so much without my
intake having increased as well. Sure - there are APs, which
I eat a lot of.....but that doesn't take into account the
overall increased metabolic rate and so on - plus the fact
that calculating points for activity and food is a juggling
act all around.... Basically, I am taking the fact that my
TOM has gone missing again as a sign that I'm out of balance
again - and I'm hoping that by upping things a little, I'll
restore the balance. If not, well, I'll be a couple of
pounds up, and will drop the points down again to recitfy
it.......in the meantime, I get a couple of weeks eating a
little more than normal, which ain't all bad...... 😉

  14. After I posted, I realized though, that I seem to be
maintaining. Up and down but only a pound here or there. So
I would have to guess that I am (and probably YOU are)
eating about right. I think there have been days I could
have used a bit more energy and I am thinking of adding a
bit more food on outing jaunts. (getting to around 155 is
probably still in the back of my mind when I have my doubts
or post like I did. But for maintaining - I AM MAINTAINING)

So, why does that program (diet power?? was it?) think you
should eat more? Does it have any explanations or
background? Either that or it may be mis-calculating
    exercise/activity calories???

I think really what I'm thinking is that it would be nice to
cut down the snacking which sometimes seems to mindless and
just a habit. Maybe just sit down and have a piece of cake
or something a bit more formalized so that it does not seem
    to be endless and mindless?????

  15. I know that I've read that women who train very hard and are
thin stop their TOM. I imagine that dieting and training
hard may also have the same result. You may be eating too
little and maybe too little fat. As someone else suggested
(in this thread?) getting a more accurate body fat
percentage could provide some additional info but it may be
more costly than just adding some additional food/points
such as nuts or olive oil and seeing how it goes.

And have a happy birthday, KID! (G)

  16. Yes, I am maintaining too. What I find odd though, is that I
seem to maintain on many different amounts of points. 25,
20, 27 (I have never really pushed my luck much above the 27
point mark). I can go two weeks of watching very carefully,
staying at or below 23 points - which used to be what I
needed to be at to lose on ww ... now I only maintain there.
Which is nice, but sometimes that dang 125 number flies into
my head and makes me think ... but nothing I do seems to be
able to send me into that direction. THAT is what makes me
wonder ... how much do I *really* need to eat. Sometimes I
think it would be nice to know this magical number - be it
calories, or points - just *something* a bit more firm and
tangible. And most days I now am finding I have very little
energy - to do anything much other than crawl out of bed,
clean the kitchen, do my treadmill (which is pushing my
luck) ... that's about it. Why is this? Is it just the
weather, or is it from something else? I haven't felt this
lack of energy for a long, long time now - really since I
started on ww. And then I could come up with the explanation
    - I was overweight. NOW what is my excuse?

I have no idea why dietpower thinks I should be eating
more. Maybe Lesanne can jump in with her wonderful
knowledge of the program here, and explain. I believe the
program is based on metabolic rates. Studies what I have
entered as my caloric intake, as well as suggested
scientific metabolic rates, my personal data
    (age/weight/height/lifestyle ... smoker/non-smoker, etc)
... daily weights, exercise routines ... lumps it all
together, sorts it all out, and comes up with a mystical
number of calories that says it is my metabolic rate. When
I started using this program on 3/1, it said my metabolic
rate was 2005 ... since them my weight has dropped 3
pounds (I am up a pound this week - heaven only knows why)
and my metabolic rate has now risen to 2235. This seems
awfully high to me, and I am not eating anywhere near that
amount of calories. I am averaging 1700 calories eaten,
most days well below that (1500-1600) but a few high days
    thrown into the
mix. Guess I would rather see my metabolic rate say the
same thing, if this is where I should be maintaining.
Adding 500 calories to THAT number does take me to the
suggested 2200 number ... but logic also says I should
be losing by eating 500 calories less. See where I get
very confused? Have I just stalled my body? Or is the
program still *catching up* and *sorting things out*?

I do think the program was over determining the exercise,
based on the programming error that Lesanne did find. I have
since corrected that, relogged everything and come up with
what does sound like a truer number (using the
calorieperhour.com website). 40-60+ minutes of walking at
    4MPH. I am calling it a 5% incline, since I vary anywhere
from the number 3-8 setting on the treadmill. I figured 5%
was right in the middle and probably where the machine would
average it out over the duration of the workout. Roughly 400
calories burned in an hour, give or take a few ... not
unreasonable and I don't think too high for what I am doing.
(The lcd on my machine says 700+, I defintely think that is
way too high). Based on the 19 days I have used the program,
3 days in that time with no exercise logged (not bad for 19
days!), I am averaging 252 calories in exercise per day.

And, unfortunately, I can't even really cut down on my
snacking anymore. It has become pretty nonexistant these
days. I do have my snack mid afternoon ... a bowl of cut up
fruit (melons, pineapple, strawberries) or yogurt ... and a
desert in the evening (skinny cow) OR snack (again, usually
the mixed fruit or an apple, maybe some meringues about once
a week) ... rarely both. That's it. No munchies, no
    crunchies.

I guess in a nutshell, I am confused these days. Where do I
go from here? I am not unhappy maintaining, but once in a
while I do think I would like to see the silly scale move a
bit further down .. just for grins. Guess I'm just always
finding something to question. So to really throw things
off, today I feel like I totally maxed everything out. Out
for lunch, out for dinner - no good choices made at either
meal ... and I'm not fretting about it. <G>

After I posted, I realized though, that I seem to be
maintaining. Up and down but only a pound here or there. So
I would have to guess that I am (and probably YOU are)
eating about right. I think there have been days I could
have used a bit more energy and I am thinking of adding a
bit more food on outing jaunts. (getting to around 155 is
probably still in the back of my mind when I have my doubts
or post like I did. But for maintaining - I AM MAINTAINING)

So, why does that program (diet power?? was it?) think you
should eat more? Does it have any explanations or
background? Either that or it may be mis-calculating
    exercise/activity calories???

I think really what I'm thinking is that it would be nice
to cut down the snacking which sometimes seems to mindless
and just a habit. Maybe just sit down and have a piece of
cake or something a bit more formalized so that it does not
seem to be endless and mindless?????

tells me I should be eating many more calories ... so
why won't/can't I listen? I am very afraid of eating

  17. LOL! That's easy for you to say, isn't it? I know you are
right, but it is hard to get the head into the same place.
Today I *just did it* - actually, overdid it according to my
calculations. Ate around 60 points (everyone of them is by
guess, no weighing or measuring) and enjoyed every bit of
it. <g> Then the first thing I did when I got home this
evening (from eating dinner) was to tell hub when he goes
grocery shopping in the morning, figure light for dinner. It
is habit, it is fear. And I know tomorrow (today?) probably
will not be a good day either, as I am hitting the road
early to take daughter to go visit a college in the city.

I may conciously give it a try the next 2 weeks though, just
to see what happens. Use it more as an excuse to see how
this program will work. Even upping things just 100-200
calories/day shouldn't do any major damage. Like you said,
at worst, a pound or two up, which isn't impossible to get
back under control. And since I am just at the tail end of
TOM, it probably IS the best time to get the truest results
    ... right? <G>

I don't know if I do more than your friend or not, might
actually be pretty similar. I don't do pilates at all, and
my cardio is only the treadmill. I currently am working on
the treadmill twice a day, 5 or 6 days a week, totalling
about an hour for each day. I've started on light weight
training ... was going to do it every other day but have
been accomplishing it about every 3rd day. Hate to admit it,
but everyone here was right ... that stuff is much more
difficult than it looks and I felt like a total weenie after
the first day (haha). It took me 2 days just to be able to
unhook my bra (bending arm behind my back) without incurring
any pain! So I am now working a bit slower in that
    department, and feeling better.

Ok, I'll join Krys in the guinea pig test ... suck it up for
2 weeks and see what happens. Now I really am scared! <G>

  18. I will definitely remember that you are a strong and
courageous guinea pig. <G> And just so you don't feel so
alone ... it appears I have just committed in another post,
to joining you in this *test*. 2 weeks is it? <g> I do think
this will work for you, you are working out incredibly
harder than I am. My hour/day of treadmill is nothing in
comparison to what you are doing on a daily/weekly basis. My
TOM never totally disappeared, just decided to delay itself
a bit - so don't really think I'm out of balance like you.
And I am already eating more than you. Regardless, it's a
dang scary move for both of us, I'm sure.

I never thought about it, but you're right <again> ...
a couple weeks of eating a bit more than usual could
    be fun. <G>

Ooooooooooh, a birthday! I love birthdays ... when they are
someone elses! Happy birthday to you ... soon! Have some
cake and ice cream for me. I have to wait a month before I
    can have my own. <G>

eating more is a very hard step to take......I'm hanging
in there......and I hope it works. It worked last time.
And I know how obsessive I have become about my excercise.
It can't be right for that to have increased so much
without my intake having increased as well. Sure - there
are APs, which I eat a lot of.....but that doesn't take
into account the overall increased metabolic rate and so
on - plus the fact that calculating points for activity
and food is a juggling act all around.... Basically, I am
taking the fact that my TOM has gone missing again as a
sign that I'm out of balance again - and I'm hoping that
by upping things a little, I'll restore the balance. If
not, well, I'll be a couple of pounds up, and will drop
the points down again to recitfy it.......in the meantime,
I get a couple of weeks eating a little more than normal,
which ain't all bad...... 😉 'Specially when one of those
    weekends is me birthday! *grin*

  19. I understand why you're scared. It's hard to adjust your
diet after a long period of extreme vigilance.

Good luck with your city/college trip.

As for the weight liftings and feeling like a
weenie...don't. It's normal. Just don't give up or every
time you pick up the weights, you'll feel the pain again.

Don't feel like a weenie. It's really difficult to lift at
the start. Start light and if you underdo it you can always
add weight next time. If you overdo it you'll injure
yourself and you won't be able to lift for weeks/months.
When I started I was embarassingly weak. I got a purple
plastic set of dumbells for christmas and found them
extremely heavy. They were too heavy to use even for biceps
curls. Now they are a nice weight for lateral raises. It
doesn't matter what weight you lift so long as you are
improving. If you get pain while you are lifting stop
lifting immediately and try something lighter next time. If
you get pain after 24 hours, that DOMS and is OK. Working
out 2 or 3 times a week is fine. If you do cardio and
    weights, do the weights first.

    It's addictive 🙂
