  1. did my 1st triathlon today🙂 the details are: 400m swim 10km
    ride 4km run

i think my overall time was about 60mins. pretty [censored]
compared with some aus post guy who finished in 39 mins but
i was just glad i didnt need to be dragged into a life
boat🙂 the running paths were a bit narrow when you needed
to overtake or were being passed.. also each time i saw a
red light on beach rd i had to tell myself to not slow down,
and there's no need to stop🙂

some training details: i ride to work 2 or 3 days a week
(13km ride, surrey hills to clayton) do a long ride on the
weekend usually 60-100kms. since late december ive been
running 2 or 3 times a week usually 2.5 to
3.5kms at a time and ive been swimming 2 or 3 times a week.
When i 1st started training for this in december, i
couldnt swim 25m without stopping, could run approx 800m
before needing to walk and weighed about 94kgs (now
87kgs). so the training has really done me some good🙂 i
dunno if i'll bother with ever doing the serious events in
the future but these semi-serious / fun events will be
good to keep the training motivation up..

now onto those mid june audax rides..they seem more
appealing than jumping into the bay at 9:30am without a
    wetty..

  2. and you dont get confronted by scary images like innapropriate use of speedos :-)

(and insane people who cant understand you must have the latest/greatest/lightest/carbon-est fandangly bike known to man to ride! geesh...)

i was happy knowing that i finished the bike ride and was
only passed by 2 or 3 other riders who all had fancy carbon
type tri bikes with disc / tri spoke wheels of some
    description.

as for innapropriate use of speedos, is there ever an
appropriate use?🙂 (as far as men wearing them) as my wife
and i were walking towards the transition area for me to
start, some hairy dude in speedos was telling his mate
"one thing i forgot this morning, was to shave around my
crotch, cos dude, that was like murder on the bike" (yes
he was american) i guess he got a free brazillian
    yesterday morning🙂

    i'm looking forward to my 1st audax🙂 it'll be my 1st 200km
    ride since around the bay

    which one?
i like em but they are always big commitment as they are in far-flung places and as we are a 1 car family (more cycling expenditure :-P), getting there incurs the wrath of
    'she whom must be obeyed'

done the Fernshaw?Lake Mtn one (ouch!) and alpine classsic twice now and a couple of others too. longer/slower, mmmmmmm

Speedos are used for measuring speed on a bike, they really
shouldn't be used to sit on the saddle...

I think you might have the triathlon crowd mixed up with the
Sunday morning club ride crowd (regarding no-expense-spared
    equipment vs actual usefulness).

Pooh. Another them and us exercise. FWIW, I ride with
"cyclists" (whatever that means) and race triathlon - all
without the benefit of carbon fibre or disc wheels. Then
again, I'm not quite at the elite level in either.

Actually i was referring to audaxers who just ride whatever for reliability and comfort (the fools, dont they know they could save 1.5 grams if they bought Ti blah, blah, blah)

"FWIW, I ride with "cyclists" (whatever that means) and race triathlon.

Hope you aint one of dem that finds riding in a straight line very tricky :-P Tri-ers are very scary to ride anywhere near, me finds
All those anti-drafting rules isnt necessarily a good thing...

these are the two i'm looking at. not sure if i'll just do
one or both Seaford Loops 200 Saturday 5 June 2004 -
Seaford, VIC 200km - Road - Supported - Full Moon See the
sea in one or two scenic 100km loops around the Mornington
Peninsula. Two bays from Town Saturday 26 June 2004 -
Albert Park Lake, VIC 200km - Road - Unsupported - First
    Quarter Moon

First a flat, fast frolic to Frankston, a circuit of
the Peninsula, attack the altitude of Arthurs Seat,
    then back to town.

'fraid not... I'm equally mediocre riding on the aerobars as
I am in a group (though not on the aerobars _in_ a group -
that is a sure way to visit casualty)
