I've been riding SRAM on my mtn bike for years. Last June,
climbing a steep grade (~20%) it seperated. Pin came out and
the link actually bent sideways. On another occasion a pin
came out, after a day of major climbing on the last little
hill. I wouldn't claim their any more impervious to failure.

the problem is the new DA 10sp outer chainrings. They are so
light and they flex so much that the chain is thrown to the
outside of the ring. This problem has been happening since
the tour last year. Some riders can do it doing a track
stand, sometimes it happens during a sprint. There is no
real consistency to it. I've seen certain track riders do it
consistently though. Shimano knows about this problem, they
have made beefier rings. There is a HUGE shortage of DA10
right now and they can't produce the group and deal with the
problems fast enough. Next time you are at the races have a
look at the Shimano sponsored teams bikes......lots of DA
9sp rings on 10sp cranks.......
