After lots of searching the best(cost to performace ratio) HT dirtjumping type bikes I have found are the Haro Escape 8.3, and the Norco Sasquatch.
Both retail for about $1000(I am not sure the price on the Haro, this was listed on mtbr.com) US and the Haro seems to be spec'd slightly higher (mainly the front fork is a Marzocchi DJ2 w/20mm axle, the Norco has a DJ3)
Which one would you buy?

Go for the haro which I believe is around 1300 dollars. Haros are a great value and you get a lot for your money.
-
Get the Norco Sasquatch because it's lightweight( Iknow it because I test ride it before) and affordable which I think is less or about $1000 U.S.

Just found out I can pro-deal mountain cycle, so I'm going to go with the build a bike option on their hardtail/freeride frame.

Well, good luck then.

i just bough the haro escape 8.1, a pretty big difference between the 8.3. I havent had much a chance to do any jumping on it but if you want to do some xc'ing its pretty decent aswell
