  1. Hello,

I enjoy programming web applications and I am also getting into cycling. I have found that I could maybe combine the two and produce a website where cyclists can log various information about their cycling.

This will be a free site, designed by me, and if people are interested in such a site, please let me know! I will need tips on the type of data people would want to record and also, what type of calculations they would want to be able to perform on their recorded data.

Here are some things I have thought of:

*Post a ride at a time, including distance, a description of the ride and maybe top speed, average speed etc.

*Have an array of operations you can perform on your own data like: Total distance since you started the log. Weekly, monthly distances. Average distances etc.

*I would assume people would want their data kept private, but there could be an option to make your data public if people click on your name from a list, based on an age category or type of rider etc.

If people think this is a good idea, I'm sure there are many more features that would be useful.

Thanks in advance for any input!

    Nick.

P.S The reason I'm doing this is to improve my web design and programming skills! I've found the best projects are ones that produce a useful result.

  2. I have been looking for just such a site. I am currently using another website @ www.fitday.com but it lacks the ability to run reports for more than one month at a time. It would also be nice to be able to run a report that shows how many miles I've riden on a specific trail.

    www.fitday.com

I am going to start a repository on my website for ideas such as yours. That way, you can read over existing suggestions and not double up etc.

I will post the address here when I get it working.

    Nick,

  4. Well, I currently have an excel spreadsheet where I run weekly totals with monthly and yearly totals. I also have distance, speed avg, time, course and type of training performed.

What I would also like to see in addition to distance, speed, avg(and average is done automatically with distance and time)time, training zone, max speeds, scale for how one felt through the ride, describtion of course and type of training, watts if possible(and if it can be calculate internally), personal data entry like age, height, weight, diet weight loss goals, journal for daily diet. Now understand this is a wish list only. I'm sure others might not agree with all of my inputs.

  5. The first incarnation will be minimilist. But that's so things can be added as we go.

My original idea was to have the data personal/private, but I suppose most people would like to be able to compare themselves with peers. This can be selectable when you set up your account.

"Now understand this is a wish list only. I'm sure others might not agree with all of my inputs."

That is what I'm after. I am using this as much as a project to help me become a good programmer/web designer as I am using it to make a useful tool.

    Cheers, Nick.
