LADY Melba. I blush with pride. Why, Darlin', you come over and sit here right next to me. We'll
talk and have some coffee. I make a pretty darned good spaghetti sauce, too.

I am not a fancy cook, and not particularly an adventurous one, I think. I tend to cook from my
pantry and freezer rather than from a recipe. I like to look at cookbooks but rarely follow a
recipe. If I have to go out and buy something for a recipe, it had better darned well show a LOT of
promise. :-)I think I have a fairly good grasp of "what will go with what" but that's only because I've been
cooking for a long time. I didn't learn to cook at home--there were a boatload of kids and I was
generally regarded as a nuisance who was in the way most of the time. Here's a paradox: The sister who has probably been most helpful to my cooking over the years is the
lousiest cook of all of us (including a couple of the guys). I remember as a young bride that I'd
call her with questions and she'd dig out her Betty Crocker book and look up a recipe that would put
me on the right track.I'm short on patience and I work fast in the kitchen. And I didn't teach Becky or Chris to cook,
either. My redemption is with the BRG -- she's very curious about what Baba is doing and wants to
see everything that's going on at the stove. We'll decorate St. Patrick's Day cookies next Saturday.
She shows promise with colored sugar and sprinkles. :-) And I'm thinking she could probably tear up
some lettuce, too. She was just two. Thanks again for your generous words.

That's not adventurous, Sweetpea; that's TRADITION!! It's The Way They Are. The Way They Will Be.
Forever. And Ever. Amen.
