We're getting some nice springlike weather for at least the next few days- temps in the 40s. Of
course, it won't last and for sure we'll get walloped between now and the end of winter. And
with March coming in like a lamb, that means getting walloped at the end of the month!

Oh yah. I like to wait until everyone is _sure_ that the snow is done, usually at the end of
March, and say; 'Not so fast! We've got one more storm coming. Take it to the bank.'

For me the certainty that spring has sprung is when the city gets the sweeper and vacuum machines
out to clear away the salt/sand residue crud. Usually we get the last snow just after that.

    🙂

Don't remind me- I was just setting out on my first nice ride of the year last april when BAM! Some
piece of [censored] on the road caused me to puncture. It was this big staple! I just stood there for a
second going WAAAAAAA! like Lucy. By coincidence, this nice guy stopped and asked me if I needed any
help, so my ride was saved. In return, I bought him a tube at the shop and told them to give it to
him on my account. And it's awful when a big breeze comes up and blows all that dust and [censored] in
    your face!

I don't know what's happening at your end of the I-5, but around here I use crocuses as a
reliable judge of Spring. yesterday I went by one yard on my commute, and the lawn was covered
with crocuses, their blooms not quite open yet.

Hey my Camellia is starting to open. Must be 20 or 30 full blossoms of the 20K that are to come.

The crocus and a few mushrooms were popping up through the snow we had in January. The daffodils on
the south side are almost ready to bloom. The ones on the north side haven't formed buds but the
horsetail is pushing through the asphalt.

    Beach weather soon?

They close up when it's dark and in the rain. Mine have another bloom in October after the rains

Hey, I go WAAAAAA! Too. That's just required. Your 'steed' is wounded!

The important thing is to stand there and pretend to look at your quads all-round to assure your
lycra knickers aren't ripped - while he's fixing the tire - or so I've heard. ;-p

3 hour urban bike rides with ONE other person starting at 2 or 3am and ending in front of a donut

there are no oceans, lakes or rivers where i am now. big, big :-(

    Other signs of spring:

    Baseball.

    Garbage!

    Potholes

Passover stuff in the grocery store

Jesus movies (on tv as well)

    Mud

    Huge enourmous puddles!

    the sound of Motorcycles!

You used to be able to include the Hockey Playoffs in that list but now they are in the middle of
    the bloody summer.

I love doing 'odd hours' things like that. I can be wide awake at that time slot.

Here's my off-beat late night ride idea. I got a night scope for my b-day, and I've figured out a
way that you can put on your helmet and see in the dark (one eye only). I had the thought of riding
the bike trail in the complete darkness, (or on a full moon night), without lights. That's a -little-
creepier than riding the streets. Will get around to it this summer. Of course the trail is supposed
to be closed, but there are no signs to that effect and the trail starts 300 feet from my backyard

Of course I'll ride slowly so as to avoid riding into the river...nah, strike that. ;-p

Must be nice, it snowed on the guys out training in Gent for this weekend's Het Volk race. The
conditions on the Eikenberg and the Molenberg were the worst I've ever seen them.

Why, is it necessary to slog through the ocean on such a ride?

Close to 60 here in DC. Spent the day riding around and shooting photos. It's great to ride without
    winter duds.

Ooh, you lucky guy. Unless the photography was (for) work. But even then ... ooh, you lucky guy.

I was just thinking about how photogenically dynamic and wild March skies can be, and replete with
all kinds of natural light effects. We're entering a magical time of year for shutterbuggery.

    cheers, Tom

Work was not in the picture. I was on my homebound commute on Friday and I noticed those photogenic
March skies with the artistic contrails in them and I said to myself, self, you need a camera for
    this stuff.

So I bought a camera (I had a camera but it died on my trip to the Northern Neck, if you recall).

As far as I'm concerned any sort of buggery is right out of the picture, Keats.
