  1. I just joined WW this week (for about the 10th time over the last 30 years), and this morning the
thought occurred to me that maybe there was a group of "real" people helping each other on the
    newsgroups.

I sabotage myself very well. I hate behavior modification when it's obvious, hate journaling, and
I'm not a big fan of the recipes, either. Hmm - sabotage attempting to rear it's nasty head already.
But............this time I really need to succeed, for both myself and my daughter. We both have
health issues that our weight is seriously affecting, so I need to deflect the anger (my in-laws are
all skinny mini's who like to give advice), and get on with this.

It takes me forever to figure out what I can eat, checking points, so I've always tended to eat the
"bare bones" instead of really preparing dishes. And of course, then I get bored, and head for the
    "good" old stuff.

This time, I THINK I've maybe hit on something that will help us (DD and
me). I sat down this morning, and used a magic marker to write the points on the containers of cream
cheese, margarine, jelly, etc. So I don't have to continually check (I know that knowledge will
become second nature if I can stick to this). Then I looked around at what I am actually willing
to eat for breakfast, and tastes good to me. Like, I would rather go without toast completely if
I can't slather on butter - the low fat margarines make toast soggy. So, this morning, after an
hour of looking, I made a veggie omelet, with lots of onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and Egg
Beaters, light toast (I "buttered" it cold so nothing got soggy) and coffee with sweetener (one
good thing, for me, is I like coffee fixed most anyway, so while I usually drink it black, adding
low fat non dairy creamer and sweetener makes it almost a dessert). Now I'm going to put this
breakfast on paper, and start keeping a book of successful meals to refer to.

The second thing I think will help me enormously is this group.

  2. Welcome, Sharon. I, too, have joined WW many times. The program definitely works if you work the
program. This is an awesome group. Unlike any other newsgroup I've ever read. Very, very supportive.
It sounds like you had a great breakfast!

  4. Hi Sharon. I joined WW three times before it "stuck", and there are many others like us. This group
of real people is a huge help! After one and a half years of WW this time I tried my first WW
reciepe about a month ago. I found it much easier to just modify what I normally ate rather than
    completely starting from scratch.

Anyway, here's the official welcome notice that helps explain what the group's all about. It really
is one of the nicest groups out there.

Welcome to this great newsgroup where you'll receive lots of support, advice, and encouragement.
Once a week on Sundays, I post a list of links that newcomers to asdww might find useful. You may
want to look for that later in the week, or do a backwards search for last Sunday's post.

In the meantime, here's our FAQ: didian.comasdww our welcome notice:
    geocities.comindex.html

Frequently seen acronyms on this NG: NSV = Non-Scale Victory WOE = Way of Eating WOL = Way of Life
(Living) OP = on Points or On Program DH = Dear or Darling Husband
DS/DD/DGD/etc = Dear or Darling Son, Daughter, Granddaughter, etc WI = Weigh-in

    Amberle3's Challenges:

THTP - Take Heart, Take Part Exercise Challenge: angelfire.comthtp.htm

RafL - Resolutions are for Losers Weight Loss Challenge:
    angelfire.comrafl.htm

    Other acronyms: wwlissa.com100+acronyms.htm

Here's a short synopsis of the USA program by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you lose weight those points
allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will need less to operate). At 183 pounds and based
on the new US flexpoints system, you will have a set point target of 24. In addition to this you are
allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout the week ... as well as any activity points you earn on
a particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22 points ... weight reaches
150, target once again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of dairy of recommended per day, 5 servings of
fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses of water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop calculator ...
    zythra.compoints.exe

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily number of points. Points do not carry over
from day to day. You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to be used at your discretion ... can divide
them up and use daily (would be an additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a
special occassion during the week. Activity points are earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be
used on the day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be a great thing for you to look into.
There is lots of information available, as well as the food point database and journaling system.

    Joyce WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02 current weight: 133.3 Lifetime: 4/4/03

Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK, Australia, NZ, Europe), the Points plans are
different. The UK and Australia/NZ calculate points based on saturated fat and total kilojoules.
Most of Europe calculates based on total fat and total kilojoules. The desktop calculator above can
    handle all of these programs.

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is unusual in that most of the people who
participate are respectful, considerate folks who freely share their experience with and knowledge
of WW, weight loss, and maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers show up to post
advertising, false information, insults, and the like. Nearly all of the time, people like this are
just trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the regulars on this newsgroup offer their experience
as a suggestion to try if you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has to find what
works for him/herself. If someone posts something that doesn't sound right to you, ask the
newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!

  5. Well Hi and welcome. I joined at least 20 times before the Last time this past Feb 2002, and I have
been at goal for 6 months now. Journal!!!! Make yourself a challenge to do it for a month. Staple
that thing to your head or something 🙂!! You Can Do This. I love a bacon lettuce and tomato with
light miracle whip for breakfast. Or grilled lowfat cheese sandwich with sliced tomatoes. Or cereal,
skim milk and fruit. Or oatmeal. Or one of those new low fat tortillas with your omelet wrapped in
it. Many of them are one point.

You've just started and you've already had your first NSV (non-scale victory). You were able to
solve a meal problem without doing without and without going back to old stuff. Congratulations!!

Welcome to the group!! You will really like it here!!

  7. Hi Sharon and welcome.

I too just started to modify my life to a healthier WOL (way of life/living). I'm taking baby steps
that are really paying off. I have to say that this group has a lot to do with it and it's one of
the nicer groups that I've seen online for quite some time.
