Haha love the comment! my handle is of course not my name! hehe I took a graphic arts class in my freshman year of high school...one of our first assignments was to create a business card for ourselves with a made up profession and everything...Now my first name is Jill and people suggested my company should be like Jillys Jelly Bean Company or something corny like that...but i always like to do something different so while contemplating what my business should be I got an email about funny things to Kmart...and I got to one that said "Make up nonsense products and ask newly hired employees if there are any in stock, i.e., "Do you have any Shnerples here?" So I decided my business should be Shnerpals...with a pals instead of ples...that way we could have a "Pal of the month." So the next day when i told everyone of my business name they thought it was a good nickname too so they all called me Shnerpals...At first I didnt like it but after a while it just became normal to be called it..After a while Shnerpals wore out and people started calling me Jillifish...but Shnerpals was just so different I decided to keep it and be the only person on the net known as Shnerpals...So that is the story of my handle! Not the most exciting story but I enjoy it! hehe

I used to drag race semi-pro and nitrousmike just didn't have a ring to it so I picked nitromike .. been using it ever since.

jstraw is short for Jack Straw, not the Brit politico but rather the only character from a Grateful Dead song that's from Kansas.

My handle was born of the frustration of cleaning 4 bikes through last winter/spring. The drought has broken and we have lotsa mud & grime now.
That & the handle I use on other forums was taken.

You know, Hugh Beaumont is getting pretty sick of listening to Richard Deacon brag about Frank Bank's meager accomplishments.

Mine has its roots in football (soccer) and from using the messageboard of the english second division team brentford whose nickname are the bees. The culture for handles on there is to have yuor name followed by "bee". Hence davebee. I then assumed it unlikely that anybody would have used a similar name on here which saved me the hassle of remembering a new login handle. Bit dull I know.

I'll try anything once. . . Usually to the detriment of the article as I'm known for being pretty harsh on bikes which means if it's no good, it breaks.

Lt James A. Moss led the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps on a famous ride from Ft Missoula, Montana all the way to St Louis, MO in 1897! The concept was to see if bicycles could replace horses for the U.S. Army. In fact a longer ride to San Francisco was planned by Moss when the Spanish American War broke out. Moss's army cyclist arrived in Cuba after the fighting was over but saw action in postwar riots in Havana. The bike troopers were very effective, by all accounts, at helping to control the crowds (forerunner of modern police bikes??).
I thoroughly enjoy learning anything about military cycling or military bicycles.
Using Moss's name as my user name is just to honor this (IMHO) cycling pioneer.

But I was christened Margaret, which is also my legal name. I started using brightgarden about 10 years ago when I got divorced. I was considering changing my name legally, and thought, why do native americans have the monopoly on translated names? But it turns out, you can't change your name legally to just one name (without a lot of trouble).

Mine is because I'm a Fender guitar nut. Here's kinda what I do for a living.

I'm a Coast Guard lisenced captain (5K ton, all ocean with sail endorcement.) I spent a number of years sailing professinally in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Pacific doing commercial sailings, deliveries & charters. I always traveled with a bike on board. A great way to explore exotic places. (Like Boston, New York & Miami. :-)

Mine's the bike and colour (sounds kind of Hawaiian).

Came up with it about eight years ago.

The other two, also sentient, are Jezebel, an ancient townie from circa 1920's and Beryl, the road bike (under construction)

The handle Limerickman is derived from the fact that we moved to Limerick 6 years ago from Dublin.

Mt. Diablo in Mt. Diablo State Park is my regular ride. I've ridden it almost 600 times and I never get tired of it. Since it's a state park there's usually not much traffic because the cars have to pay. 3800 foot climb in 11 miles on the road. Loads of MTB trails too - it's a biker's paradise. Also camping, horseback riding, hang gliding, bird watching, painting, rock climbing… a wonderful place to get away from the rat race.
