  1. I recently purchased a bike from my LBS with an 04 Record group and the chainrings are not the champagne color like all the pictures I've seen of the 04 group. There is supposed to be a coating on the 04 rings that give that color.

Has anyone else recently purchased an 04 Record group with the colored chainrings? Are there any 04 specific markings I can look for that will identify an 04 crank and chainring set?

I'm wondering if I've been given a left over crankset from 03 and charged for the 04.

I'm emailed Campy but they've been slow to respond.

  2. My 04 Carbon cranks have the new rings, and several of the 04 alloy chainsets are on some firends' tikes all have the distinctive color you mention.

In additon, on my carbon crankset big ring, there are two red graphics by the crank, where in the past it has all been in black.

I have the Red UD and EPS markings on the larg ring near the crank but not the color.

FWIW, I have '04 Record, here's a picture of my cranks.

    Thanks!

    Mine look exactly like that!

When did you get the group?

I wonder if customers complained about the color (I have seen posts about that) and they change the coating color for later production runs. My chainrings do seem to have a slick coating on them but they look just like yours.

    PS. Nice choice in pedals!

  6. According to Campy's website the '04 chain-rings are their EPS model with some type of special anti-friction treatment. The chain-rings can be Identified by the red emblem with the black EPS label on the 53 chain-ring. (Here is the pix off the Campy website for their '04 cranks).

I got the bike yesterday! 😄

So I assume the group was ordered a few weeks ago, around the first of Feb.

Just for comparison here is mine:

  10. the alloy record cranks are so sweet; classic and so much negative space especially with the hidden fifth spider arm. i know im stating the obvious and irrelevant but whatever. i dunno if ill ever like the new d/a styling as much, at least not any time soon.
