  1. Hello

Please forgive if I refer with it to wrong forum . In such case I would appreciate direction to the
    right place .

I have rather embarrassing problem that's why I decided to post here before I go search for a
    specialist.

I was and am having a very rough time since 3 months . I lost closest family member which set me off
from reality . I'm not going out much , I don't eat well and I generally have a bad mood . I also
don't drink much water lately . The tub water is like coffee and because I don't go out I don't get
fresh supplies. Lots of coffee , delivery food and soft drinks. In result of that I put on some
weight. Tho I'm regular in the gym so I don't worry much about it. I'm not fit mentally to do it
right now , need some more time .

I'm saying that because I'm guessing that mine improper diet might have something to do with that.

For couple of days (10 or so) I feel frequently some tickle in my butt. It might last for a minute
and reappear randomly . 3 times a day , sometimes more. It's literally tickling me inside.

It's not itchy sensation , it's tickling till I have to move left right against the chair in order
to stop it. If I move or contract my butt muscle it will stop. That at times might return after a
while . It happen in different times of the day , sometimes night.

Do you have any idea what could it be ? If it's a possibility of parasite , are there any things I
could drink to get rid of that ? Any herbal stuff to clean the system a bit ?

Once again , please forgive me if I post it in the wrong forum. I will appreciate any tips or
suggestions . Really feel embarrass to go to doctor and ask him to look into my butt with a
    torch light.

    best regards

Lots of things can cause anal itching. I'll give you an example from my personal experience. A few
years ago I suddenly developed a mild anal itch that sounded a lot like what you described. After it
had been going on for about a week, in the process of looking for something else I came across an
article by a dermatologist in which he mentioned that there were some reports in the medical
literature of people developing an anal itch after using toilet paper made from recycled paper. And
sure enough, I had just switched brands of toilet paper to one that was based on recycled paper. I
went out and got some of my old brand and voila! no more itch.

If you can't find anything obvious like that, then go see a doctor. They hear about his particular
complaint *all the time*. They won't think

listed as a cause of the problem). They won't do anything to embarass you since they know it's the
kind of problem that many people are squeamish talking about.

As for possible causes, do a Google search on "pruritus ani" which is the technical name for the
symptom. But don't try to diagnose yourself.

Don't you mean *was* behind me?

Anyway, it's a pleasant experience when serendipity enables you to quickly get to the bottom of
    a problem.

Oh dear, now I've got a novelty song by Tim Cavanaugh running through my head.

I always tell patients "white unscented toilet paper and soap" used in the genital area.....guess
will have to add "recycled" to the list...it makes a lot of sense!!!

We are "toilet paper snobs" and will only use ONE brand and style!!

April....what you describe does sound like a parasite,,possibly pinworms....I would not attempt to
treat it yourself with herbs,,,but see a doc,,,have them check..then a prescription med can wipe
them out....unfortunately you then have to go home and launder most everything in hot water,,,as
these buggers leave eggs in bedding and clothes,,,and will reinfect you....also it can spread
throughout a family or household contacts,,,

please don't be afraid to see a health care provider....the solution should be way easier than the
    discomfort you are experiencing..

    good luck hawki.....

any info imparted by me does not represent any views other than my own.....

Thanks Eric, a very good post and it makes good sense. Anecdotes are helpful.

Food allergies can cause anal itching, as can overeeating some foods.

The common parasite that causes anal itching is the "pinworm" ... and it is only active at night.

    Quoted message said:

Do you have any idea what could it be ?

Try improving your diet ... more fruit, less coffee, and try to find some water that is tolerable.

April - Before you think "parasite" ... scented toilet paper, scented laundry detergents (or fabric
softeners) and scented bath soaps are the most common cause.

Try changing, as suggested, to unscented, non recycled, toilet paper and make sure all your
undrewear has been washed in unscented laundry soap and rinsed well.
