Does anyone know if any particular brands are narrower than others?
I'm a shoe size 6.5 and E width fitting (where for example,G is normal and H is wider) and am having difficulty finding an approach shoe that does'nt feel to wide.
Salomon Exclaim seem best of a bad bunch, but does anyone (maybe someone who works in an Outdoor shop) know which brands would be most likely to suit me.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations on approach shoes generally.

Paul,
As the possessor of long, narrow, low volume feet I can empathise with your problem! Asolo are known for making boots that are narrower than average (and their sizing is on the small size, so be prepared to try up to a full size larger than normal). However, the last time I bought some superannuated trainers, I ended up with some by Merrell - can't remember which model - so it may be worth trying their models too. Don't be afraid to take your time about choosing, it's your money that you're spending, and buying them in the late afternoon is best if you can. And you don't necessarily need to go to a specialist outdoor shop; Millets also have a good selection, though you won't be able to rely on the sales staff for as much help.

Another vote for Merell. I bought a pair of Motovators and haven't taken them off since. If your feet are relatively small try on the women's models as well - they're even narrower, but don't go up above 8 or so.
La Sportiva fits me very well too (except that Tisos never stock half sizes in the size that I need), but I haven't come across any of their approach shoes (I have a pair of winter boots). They do make them but nobody in the UK seems to stock them.

Seems like there are many of us around! You might want to try some "tongue depressors". Sounds gross, but actually it's just a strip of foam that is placed between the shoe tongue and the laces, and helps tighten up the shoe at the right place, while still leaving enough space for toes. Folks at Lockwoods in Leamington sold me some, but you can probably get them at other reputable shoe stores.
