    No. A regular non stick pan doesn't have the same heat retaing qualities.

    Also depends on the recipe. You cannot put a non-stick skillet in the oven like you can cast iron,
    for example. But I do have a couple of stainless saute pans that go in the oven just fine - again,
    not non-stick and they don't have plastic handles.

    Depends. The non-stick cannot take the heat that a good cast iron skillet can. You won't get the
    crustiness win a non-stick pan either.

    What is the use you have in mind?

    Non stick pans with a metal handle will do a better job than cast iron for normal use. As long as
    you don't heat them past 450 they are totally safe.

    Personally, I would not, but then, I am a cast iron worshipper. ;-)

    Why would you want to? NS pans wear out. Cast iron never does.

    What do you mean by "substitute"? Cast iron has properties other than non-stickiness that might play
    a part in the recipe; i.e., it heats more evenly, can retain heat longer and can be moved to the
    oven where other skillets (those with wooden or plastic handles) can't.
