"Blackwater falls" difficult to identify as, unsurprisingly, most waterfalls in Wales have
    Welsh names.

However there is a fairly well known waterfall known as Rheadr Du (Black waterfall or Black cascade)
near Maentwrog in Snowdonia at GR SH666388 which might well be the one you are looking for.

and a less well known Sgwd Ddu (Black waterfall or Black cascade!) in the Brecon Beacons at
    GR SN829179.

I seem to recall Paul mentioning that he has a copy of the photographically challenged book "The
Waterfalls of Wales" (which contains photographs of waterfalls that are even worse than mine!) which
may reveal a few other candidates.

I did a search in Anquet and there doesn't seem to be anything called blackwater in Wales. Of
course, it's only searching the 50k map text, and as Gwyn said, most welsh waterfalls have
    welsh names.

Yes, very less known. I'm surprised at how few people know about this one, no-one seems to go there.

Indeed. Now I wonder where I put that. Probably at the bottom of a box stored away somewhere.

Hmm. There's a Blackwater at Glen Shee in Scotland, which has some fine waterfalls. Maybe she's
getting mixed up with a different insignificant country next to England ;-)

  10. Spot on found some pics which has triggered some distant bells

Thats on the Haffes I believe, know it well.

I had eyed that bit of river for many a year with a view to canoeing the first decent, lower down
it runs into the Tawe. But you would have to be there at just the right moment and in exceptional
spate conditions to make it possible.

Someone has paddled that river now.

Are you serious? You're not talking about the upper part of the river (below the fall) are you? In
between all the rocks and boulders?
