Everybody here will tell you that 28, 32, or 26-hole wheels are stronger, more durable, weigh less,
and cost less than any of the "expensive wheels" to which you refer. When spoke count goes down, rim
weight goes up to compensate, thus negating any gains you may have had by reducing spoke count, due
to the additional rotating mass. Unless you ride on rollers, you may have an unfortunate encounter
with a pothole or otherwise, thus ruining the rim. Then you'll want to replace it. Proprietary
technology is expensive. This goes for the hubs and the spokes, too.--

Well when if I am going to spend so much money on a set of wheels I would like to quantitative tests

Well that obvious, but when you get down to lower weights design becomes much more crucial. I notice
that Mavic still uses the older traditional wheels for it's service vehicles. -

neutral support unit, the signature race of the year is the Paris-Roubaix. Wussy wheels need

light due to the extra metal required to hold the tire bead.The light rims you refer to are Sun M17A's tubulars. 300 grams if that. Add some DT Rev spokes and
some Dura-Ace hubs with Ti axles and you have some sick light wheels for a reasonable cost. Given I
have an unlimited supply of these rims for $10 Cdn each, I can afford to aim for potholes. -
