  1. I am planning a camping holiday in Norway. I only have 2 weeks and don't want to spend a lot of time
    travelling so where should I go first? I like the west coast of Scotland and am told Norway is like
    that but on a grander scale. Any recommendations please?

    Alex.

    You could take the ferry from Newcastle to Stavanger or Bergen. From Stavanger and northwards
    you'll find the largest fjords, mountains and glaciers.

    How far north? Where would you suggest I make my base/centre please?

    I suggest Jotunheimen, which has the highest mountains in Norway and the most dramatic outside of
    the arctic. Jotunheimen can be reached by bus or train from Oslo.

    All the mountains can be walked up, though you have to pick your route on some of them to avoid
    glaciers. There are excellent opportunities for wild camping.

    Perhaps Bergen.

    From Bergen you can drive to the Folgefonna glacier. There are three cabins close to the glacier
    and they are open to the public. There are no staff working there. It costs about 200 Norw. kroner
    a night to stay there. There are also provision in the cabins. From one of the cabins - Holmaskjer
    - you have an excellent view, you can see both the Atlantic ocean and the Hardanger plateau
    (Europes largest mountain plateu). It takes about six hours to walk up there from Odda. There is
    an excellent path there.

    From Bergen you can also drive to the Hardanger plateau or Jotunheimen (Jotun = Norse gods /
    heimen = home - the home of Norse gods).

    If you are interesting in the mountains you can visit this site;

    www.turistforeningen.no

    this means something like "tourist-accosiation",

    they have more than 380 cabins in the mountains.

    They have some info in English.

    I have some photos from Jotunheimen and Folgefonna ( Saua...) here;

    no.photos.yahoo.comledestjernen

    You can also "google" for Folgefonna, Jotunheimen, Jostedalsbreen etc.
