You need to be more specific with price range. Don't forget to factor in all the accessories- pedals, shoes, aerobars, etc. There are very few "must haves", as long as you have a functional bike. Personally, I am going to be buying a dedicated triathlon/time trial bike within the next month or two. I have set my price ceiling at $3,000, including all accessories. I'd like to spend closer to the $2,500 mark if possible. I'm getting the whole deal- forward seat tube angle, bull horn bars, and aerobars with bar-end shifters. I'm also buying a set of Zipp 404 wheels.

Overall, I'd say the biggest "must have" for ANY bike is that it fits YOU. Go pay the money to have a professional fit done before you buy the bike.

I agree, at the end of the day, this is by far the most important consideration.
