  1. The best walk i have ever been on would be Ben'An you Drive out of Callander, heading west and take
the A821 road to Brig o' Turk and Loch Katrine. Drive past Brig o' Turk until you see a church on
your left-hand side. Just beyond this is the Trossachs Hotel on your right-hand side, and a car park
on the left-hand side of the road with signs for Ben A'an. Park the car here (NN510070).

here is some useful information incase you consider this amazing walk:

     Height: 1300 ft  Distance: 4 miles  Difficulty: Moderate to hard. 
Total Time: Allow about 3 hours.  Navigation: The paths are clear and well-walked. 
Starting Point: The Ben A'an car park, just beyond the Trossachs Hotel (NN510070).  Public
Transport: None that I know of.

I am looking to try something a little more difficult than this walk, so if anyone could suggest a
walk that is of a little more difficulty and longer?

    thanks

    Hi Hazel.

Ben A'an is indeed a great walk. I remember being inspired to climb it by a newspaper article by
Hamish Brown years ago which described it as a wonderful mountain in minature.

For a longer walk in the same area, I would suggest Ben Venue, on the other side of Loch Katrine.
Leave Aberfoyle on the Invertrossachs road and park in the big lay-by at the entrance to Ledard
Farm. A path leads round the side of the farmyard and up onto the hill. It reaches a col where it
meets the path coming up from the Trossachs Hotel. From there the going is more rugged to the twin
summits, and you can look down on Ben A'an.

Slightly further afield are the Arrochar Alps, see www.duncolm.freeserve.co.uk/arrochar/ for plenty
    of suggestions.

I suspect you've made this post as part of a college course. Congratulations on at least making the
effort to provide an interesting and, unusually enough, readable effort. You wouldn't believe how
illiterate and unwelcome some students efforts have been. You've obviously used the web for research
properly since you've quoted chunks from Bev Mercer's website.

Make sure you come back and let us know how you get on on your next walk.

The Trossachs Trundler - ask at Stirling bus station.

PS - what does "" mean?

&#***; is a code for a special charcter in HTML psyche.uthct.eduampchar.html

 comes up as a small rectangle on my browser.

  4. Thank you for your comments and you are right this was part of my school work (a project for
computing). Was it my e-mail address that gave it away and the chunks from Ben'An website?

The hotmail addy and posting from google is a dead giveaway. You're not the first and won't be
the last. At least your post has some merit in that it doesn't include The Munroes (sic), The
West Highland Way or Walking In Scotland in the subject. Far better is the fact that you
    bothered to reply.

A far better way of reading and posing to newsgroups is to use a newsreader such as Agent, Xnews,
40tude Dialog, etc. At a push you could even use Outlook Express. :-)
