Can anyone recommend a book on cycle maintenance for a complete beginner? Something with a title along the lines of "Cycle maintenance for people who think screwdrivers make good hammers" would be good.
(I saw some praise for the Ben Searle book when I searched groups.google - is that suitable for the differently-talented mechanic?)

Zinn on the Art....
I've only got _Zinn on the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance_, but it's extremely good and extremely up to date so I expect his road bike book is to.

Well, that's better than a 'Birmingham screwdriver' - more commonly known as a hammer. I believe this term originated in the motor industry, as a reflection of the quality of cars manufactured there.
